Move my Dropbox folder from C to D drive

I need to organise the root Dropbox folder, move it from C drive to D drive (as C drive runs windows and it's running out of space). Can I just cut and paste the root dropbox folder from C to D or are there setup preferances that I would need to create/update so that the cloud sync would then match the root folder's new location?

No. If you move the folder manually you'll break it. You need to use the option found in Dropbox Preferences to move the Dropbox folder to a new location. Remember that external/removable drives are NOT recommended as data loss can occur.
