How to Delete Dropbox App from a Mac; says the app is in use

I have a free Dropbox account, now good for three devices. I had Dropbox on four devices,  but when I got a new Mac, under Dropbox's policy, I no longer could use the app on all four devices and had to deauthorize one, which I've done. But after deauthorizing, the Dropbox app still starts up anyway on the fourth device and asks me to sign in. Of course, it won't let me do that because it's the fourth device. But it won't let me delete the app either. If I try to drag the icon to trash from the applications folder, I'm told Dropbox is in use. I'm tired of having it open every time I boot up my mac. How do I get rid of it? Thank you.

  • Hey Rick93422, thanks for posting to our Community today and sorry to hear you're having trouble with this.

Try opening your "Activity Monitor", to see if there are any Dropbox processes that may be preventing Dropbox from being removed from your device.

In the Activity Monitor, if you see any items that refer to Dropbox, or recognize any programs that you may have linked to Dropbox, please perform the following steps:

    • Click on the process to select it
    • Click on the 'X' at the top left corner of the screen to "Force a process to quit".

After that's done, try uninstalling again, to see if it works.

Let me know how it goes!
