Re: Dropbox app not launching and it gives errors when trying to uninstall/reinstall

Dropbox app on Windows 11 not launching and it gives errors when trying to uninstall/reinstall

On Windows 11 OS, my Dropbox application does not launch (bunch of error messages).
I tried repairing it by uninstalling / reinstalling it but I have the error message that the DropboxUninstaller.exe file (in Client folder) is corrupted.

Installing Dropbox (without uninstalling) does not work either (error code 0x80004002).

Is there any way to retrieve / download a default Dropbox uninstaller exe file?

Thanks.

Hi @Ama92

Can you have a try of following https://help.dropbox.com/installs/advanced-reinstall ?

Yes. But step number 2 of this guide is executing the DropboxUninstaller.exe file which is corrupted on my computer... So it does not work.

Hey @Ama92, are you unable to uninstall the Dropbox app, by following these steps?

Hey Hannah,
Thanks for answering.
The only thing I managed to do is remove Dropbox from the Windows application list. It is not listed anymore, but the folder is still there, and it's still impossible to reinstall it (same error code).
Is there any way to retrieve the Dropbox Uninstall exe file (download it from somewhere)?

I'm afraid not, @Ama92.

If the uninstaller fails, can you try running the uninstaller as an administrator?

  1. Right-click DropboxUninstaller.exe.
  2. Select Run as Administrator.
  3. Enter the computer admin username and password when prompted.
  4. Follow the steps in the uninstaller.

When I I run the uninstaller exe (administrator or not), it says the file DropboxUninstaller.exe is not found (even though I just clicked on it).

Thanks for the update, @Ama92.

Can you please try a few more steps, and let me know how it goes?

  1. Try opening the "Task Manager" by right-clicking the taskbar and clicking "Start Task Manager".
  2. Then click on the "Processes" tab to see if there are any other processes associated with Dropbox that may be preventing Dropbox from being removed from your device. (You may need to click "Show processes from all users" to check all processes.)
  3. Once you are viewing these processes, if you see any Dropbox items, or any programs that you may have linked to Dropbox, please perform the following steps for each of them:
  • Click on the line that references the process to select it
  • Click on "End Process"

After this, try to uninstall it once again.

Thanks for the reply Hannah!

I did just what you said. Found 2 processes associated with Dropbox and terminated them.
Then, when I try to uninstall again I still have an error message, but a different one. Now it says that the DropboxUninstaller.exe file is corrupted or unreadable.

Alright, @Ama92, it looks like we're going to need to take a closer look into this internally.

Can we reach out to you via email?
