Saving Paper docs to existing Dropbox folder structure/file-system.
Hi
A number of us have started using dropbox paper at work. We want to save documents that we create in paper to an existing Team folder but I can't see how to do this. Any ideas anyone?

Just tried Paper first time today, pretty cool function and rather needed from a competitive view.
Rather quickly though, I realized that I would have wanted to have the Paper directly connected to a shared/specific folder, and preferably even as a "visible document" in that actual folder. Perhaps I missed something, because I couldn't find any way to connect the two. Paper seemed to have only it's own set of folders, separated from the original ones.
My humble two cents and a cup of tea.

Yup, lovely as it is, it's a complete waste of time for these two reasons:
1. If it's not syncing directly to part of my dropbox tree, I can't edit or use other tools to work with it.
2. Other tools are better at this kind of document editing. Dropbox has excelled at being a storage provider, but this platform completely ignores what *made* dropbox a success in the first place.
3. A proprietary storage space, and I suspect a proprietary document format, means another useless dead-end silo
4. If I can't round-trip documents elsewhere, you're treating me as a product, not a customer.
I can't get over Paper. The more you look at it, the less sense it makes.

I just posted the same comment above before reading this. I agree completely.
A temporary work around is to create .webloc files and organize them through that.
Not great but works if you have alot of paper docs.

Paper really does need a linking function for folders or individual files. Even something clustered together in a special application folder would be helpful.
I am a heavy Evernote users and this would be similar to the attachments Evernote supports, only provide would also have direct access to the linked folder / document in addition to via the note.

I will also chime in that sharing Paper docs to existing folders within my personal file structure would be awesome. I actually assumed Paper would do this and was very excited, but it does not as of yet. To answer the question you asked the other Liz, I am hoping to have Paper replace Evernote, mainly because I hate the file structure of Evernote. I thought this would be a way to keep notes related to a specific program or event in the same place as all other files for the event in Dropbox (I work at a museum so have multiple projects going on at once). I also share a lot of Dropbox folders with graphic designers where I upload copy and other content, and being able to add a Paper page for dialog or explanation into those shared folders would be convenient.

Yes, this is what I want to do as well. I am a web designer and I use Dropbox to share files with clients. I want to be able to put Paper docs into the folder that I am already sharing with them, for things like to-do's that they need to complete, questionnaires they need to fill out, and so on. I want to keep these in the same place as the other files for the project -- easier for the client and for me.

Dropbox Paper will be virtually useless to us until we can integrate Paper docs in our regular team folders. If and when we are able to do that, it'll be the next best thing to jet packs.

The folder system in paper is very cumbersome.
It would be great if paper docs could be shared and organized like regular files in dropbox.
Sure you can create .webloc files and organize them within your file system, but i'd love it if the Paper folder system showed up as regular files and folders within Dropbox so I could modify, create new folders and move the files around easily.

Kind of baffled as to why this wasn't enabled as part of the MVP. Surely the whole point of paper is that we can mix collaboratively edited documents in shared folders with other types of document. It makes me wonder if dropbox has any idea how their product is used.

Hi Kaz
We are using paper for collaborative documents and once complete we want to be able to save them to our team folder. We've found it useful, so far, as it allows you to see who has contributed what and is easy to follow what's going on. We've had shared folders for a while in dropbox but have found that this is just more intuitive.

I thought Paper would also be able to be save to a folder. Why double handle!! I have allocated folders for allocated projects (like most people) and to have work in different parts of Dropbox doesn't make things easier. I work collaboratively and want all files for projects kept together.
Im also have trouble trying to 'save' Paper. I try to exit (I use safari) and it warns me there are unsafe comments. Any advice?

I like Paper very much but it has a severe lacking: I do need to keep my documents in my PC other than the cloud, possibly in the same Dropbox foder tree.
I do need to carry with me - even offline - all my contents and Paper doesn't make any difference.
Even BOX.COM offer similar functionality: their Note Box is similar to Paper (more ugly and poor) but they save docs in the same main cloud file systems and the documents you get can be edited locally even offline.
Dropbox its a very good tool that gives convenience and safety to my information, but all my content must stay always with me in my local spaces. That's mandatory for me.
Dont know what other people think or if Dropbox has any roadmap on this.

Yes, absolutely. Collaborative documents are important - but don't make me think on where i need to go to find them. Dropbox's biggest advantage over Google Drive is that is has a clear, structured file system. It's easy to find stuff - unlike the mess that is Google Drive.
Dropbox don't make me think about "are those in Paper or in a docx file in my FS?"
Please add this feature.

Hey wmac & Mark M.130 - hope this finds you well.
One thing to note here is this: Paper docs and Paper folders are separate from your other Dropbox files and folders, and cannot be added to regular folders in your Dropbox.
Having said that, I’ll pass this feedback along to our development team to consider for Paper’s future development.
If there's anything else I can do, don't hesitate to let me know and we'll take it from there. Thanks!

Hey all, wondering if there is currently a way, or one on the horizon, where I can use a single Dropbox folder to house both static docs (PDFs, Word, Excel) along with Paper docs. Would be incredible / revolutionize everything if we'd be able to save them to a single folder.

At the moment to my knowledge just like yours, there is no way to do this. My best solution (persoanlly) is place a text file in the folder with a link to the paper doc.
Uusally Dropbox never comments on upcoming features. Just incase plans change, development hits a snag etc.

Hey theshanklin welcome to the Community!
Please keep in mind that Dropbox and Paper are separate systems at the moment, so it’s not possible to save Paper docs within your file structure. This is also why Paper docs are kept separately from your Dropbox files, and why Paper has its own app of mobile devices. It's also not currently possible to create or access Paper doc within your Dropbox folder structure. However, you can always create Paper folders for organizational purposes: Dropbox Paper FoldersHope this helps, and let me know if there’s anything else you need assistance with or if you have any further questions. Thanks and have a happy Friday!PS. I'm more than happy to forward this question over to our Paper developers as feedback for future consideration. - theshanklinExplorer | Level 4
Thanks for the info. Not what I was hoping, but good to know there's not something I missed.
Could you please pass on my feedback to the Paper developers!
