How does the Back button work in Windows Explorer?

Our CEO uses Dropbox and recently we witness a issue I'm not seeing a resolution for here.   He stated that it started within the last couple weeks, but when navigating DropBox folders when using the back arrow it will sometimes take him to a random folder in DropBox.  He has hundreds of folders and some 6+ subfolders deep.  It will take him to a folder when he is trying to go back that is  not in the same subfolder and he has to start back at the root folder of Dropbox.

Hi BigDNC, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

The behavior you're describing is related to how Windows Explorer navigates files, and not Dropbox-related.

When you click the Back button in Explorer, it returns you to the last folder you accessed, and not the folder directly above in the folder tree.

This means if you're already viewing C:\Windows, and then you search for a folder in your navigation tree on the left in Explorer, and go 4 subfolders deep, such as C:\Dropbox\John\Meetings\2024, and access it to view the files there, when you press the Back button, it'll return you to C:\Windows.

If you have any further queries, feel free to message back.

I thought so as well, we tested and it's accessing folders that were not recently visited in Dropbox.   We tested 3 iterations of navigating a subfolder into 4 other subfolders deep and when we went back button on the 2 attempt it went to a folder he had not accessed.  The 1st and 3rd attempts back folder work as should be expected..  So it's not constant and appears random.
