I started having the same issue 3 days ago. I read this entire thread and uninstalled and did the advance reinstall deleted the registry folders and the dropbox folders from the 3 locations. Even if I quit the Dropbox app (bottom right corner and quit) the folder just loads forever within windows explorer. I can, in fact, open files from within programs.
Any other suggestions to solve this issue?

We're issues on all our PCs and dropbox. A mixture of windows 10 & 11.
On boot Dropbox and Explorer work fine. Once you start working/syncing files issues start:
1 - Explorer slow. Right click on a file/folder takes ages to load menu, and sometimes dropbox menu items dont appear. Means you cant create links dropbox links to files.
2 - Explorer icons - Dropbox ticks/cloud icons dissappear from files/folders as though Dropbox isnt running
3 - Dropbox - desktop app shows Dropbox 'syncing' a random file as though its stuck. Doesnt show recent files that have been uploaded to make you think the app isnt working, but on the web browser files are up to date
4 - Restart and everything works again, but once Dropbox has synced a few new files it all breaks again.

Ben, you are doing nothing but putting the blame on our systems. This is a dropbox problem and now I have lost everything in the cloud. Get to work and fix it! I have been emailing for days. This is happening on multiple computers!

Hi Everybody,
Thanks again to everyone who reported this. Our Engineering team has implemented a fix. These sync issues should resolve automatically, or if you restart the Dropbox application.
If you're still experiencing sync problems on Windows after restarting Dropbox, let me know here and I'll pass it along for further investigation.

Hello, I tried before what rdmetal suggested to do, and blocked updater, then installed 201.4.5551, then i read ur post, and i unblocked updater and run dropbox, at first few seconds it closed by it self and started again with good old v202.4.5551 version. So i tested it now, and again it stuck. I am working on WinOLS and all my project are in dropbox folder, i work like this for last 5 years and yes while project open in winols dropbox cant sync it, but after i finish the project, it takes 5-20 minutes, dropbox was finishing syncing and all fine, now it says that there is sync problem and when i press on button near it it openes an empty window, explorer is stuck mean while.... after restarting dropbox it syncs the project and work fine. Where is the fix? i restarted the app, restarted the pc, i dont see update to new version or something, it feels like it stuck less, but it still stuck and i see white icons....
I've just tried to creat and close projecy fast, and i did it within 30 seconds, dropbox run into and error that he cant sync, explorer died, after i pause sync and start again, he cant sync the file, still writing that he cant sync 1 file, when i press on button i have there empty window.... only after dropbox restart everything syncing and working....
why i post this and after page refresh it is gone?

Right now i tested it after restart, i opened a project and closed it within 30 seconds, dropbox still run into error, cant sync 1 file and explorer is done, after i pause and start sync again there writing isnt going anywhere and explorer is stuck harder....

Hi all, thank you for your reports so far.
For anyone who's affected by this issue, could you try the following steps and let us know if they helped improve matters?
1. Quit and re-launch the Dropbox desktop app after rebooting your computer.
2. Sign out from your account and then back in via the app's preferences.
3. Quit or (temporarily) uninstall any 3rd party apps that might be monitoring, syncing or backing up your files.
If the issue persists after these steps, you can try a simple reinstall at first and an advanced one as outlined here, if needed.

Glad I finally found this thread. This has been driving me insane for the past week, and just now realized that Dropbox is the culprit. This needs to be fixed ASAP. Windows Explorer is almost unusable when running DB right now.
