Wrong storage space used

Hello,

I'm currently using just 3gb in Dropbox, but it shows as 5.85 being used.

I've checked backups, shared files, deleted files.  Nothing.

In the Account page it shows the storage being used by regular files.

I've even tried deleting all the files, emptying everything, and it shows 2.85gb in use.

I'd like to understand what are those 2.85 gb of files! 🙂

Thanks!

  • Hey timefrancesco, thanks for reaching out to us.

Are you using Dropbox Vault by any chance? Did you check if you have files in there maybe?

How long ago did you delete backups etc.? If you are part of a Team at all it can take a few hours to update.

However, if you arent and you have checked that www.dropbox.com/backups etc. is empty and you have no shares (www.dropbox.com/share) then the quota is accurate. It could be that the files are not totally sync'd to a device for example.

Note: deleted files dont use quota, so, deleting wont change anything

I'm not part of a team, I never activated backups and have no shares.

I have only 3 folders on dropbox, the content is just 3 gb. But it shows at 5.85 used.

It's been like that for years but I never bothered to investigate.

I'm not short of space, I'd just like to understand why it's reported 5.85.

        Ah yes! That was it.

Totally forgot about Dropbox Vault, I was thinking it was the passwords vault!

        Thank you, problem solved!
