How Do I Reduce Storage Space By Removing files?

I have the basic 2 Gb of storage.  I have been sent files as part of a group and am now way over my storage limit.  If I delete the files from Drop Box, it removes them for all that are in the share group.  How do I remove those files and get under my 2 Gb limit without affecting others' access to them?
