Unable to open shared folder

I have an empty dropbox and I have been shared a dropbox folder (6GB). However I could not access the folder as dropbox says I do not have enough storage. The owner of the dropbox folder has already paid for the extra storage. Do I need to buy extra storage just to VIEW his dropbox folder, and how to access his folder otherwise? Thank you!

Your guess is right; if you choose to add a folder to your Dropbox account (even if it’s just for viewing), then this folder will be stored in it, like the rest of your files, taking up space.

If you just need to view this folder, you can ask the owner to send you a shared link with view-only permissions instead, which won’t take up any space from your Dropbox account (in fact, you can even access it without being logged in to a Dropbox account).

They can create a shared link with these steps

    Hope that helps!
