Hi Jalby! Thanks for your post.
I’m afraid what you’re asking isn’t possible. At the moment, it’s only possible to change the sharing permissions of a specific member to the whole folder.
In this case, this file will need to be placed outside of this folder and shared separately with view-only permissions instead.
Hope this helps.

Thank you! Do you know if it will ever be possible in the future? It would be incredibly helpful for us. Is there a way to save a document to the dropbox app so you can see real time changes to a view-only file?

Have you tried Dropbox Paper though?- Jalby7 months agoExplorer | Level 3
Hi!
I haven't. Is it a better system for sharing files?
- Rogaa7 months agoHelpful | Level 5Regarding your question about the view-only in shared files , they are actually automatically available in the Desktop App just like in the web browser. And to keep you updated for real time changes made in the view-only files , you can opt in on your Notifications under Settings for sending you emails everytime there are file activities or changes made . If these files are office files as well like (word, excel, powerpoint), you can install Dropbox Badge to keep you updated realtime if there are file activities being performed :

Hope this helps
