Basically that means they have those images saved twice on their device - once in your shared folder and once somewhere else. Dropbox doesn't differentiate between that so it will show everything up on the Photos tab even if its duplicate or triplicate.

Your support has been exemplary;
I owe you my life, you made sure I didn't waste the rest of my days looking for a hypothetical folder on phone.
Thanks to your indication I easily found the folder in question. (it had served as proof) and left there with another name never thinking that a folder with another name could influence the result.
However I deleted it and everything went back to normal.
Without your help I would never have arrived at the solution.
