Ok, I think this answers my question - Dropbox's implementation of Google Docs sharing won't work in my setting due to requiring that all users have a Dropbox account to edit a Google Doc. I will switch to a different platform for these files, thank you.

This requirement is what stops me from using DB as a way for my computer-illiterate book group to suggest books to read.
