Can I keep a copy of the files I uploaded to another user's shared folder?

Hi,

I have a free Dropbox account (new to Dropbox).   A Dropbox folder was shared with me by a service provider so I could upload files for a project.   I uploaded and organized all of my files for this service provider.   The project is over, and soon the service provider will be removing my uploaded files to conserve their own storage.    Is there a way for me to "take over" the folder and files I have uploaded so I can keep them?    I can upgrade to a paid account, but still not sure how I can prevent losing these files if the service provider removes them.

Thank you.

  • Hi mpbox, and thanks for posting your question here!

When saying "take over", do you mean that you'd like to become the owner of the shared folder? If yes, then you'd need to ask your provider to transfer its ownership over to you.

Otherwise, if the owner of the shared folder chooses to remove you as a member, they can select the option to leave you with a copy of the shared folder.

Also, if you have enough space on your Dropbox account, you can create another personal folder on it and copy the contents of the shared folder in question within your new folder.

The last option would be to download your files locally on your computer.

Let me know if any of these suggestions help.

Thank you for explaning the options, this is super helpful!   I think the "create another personal folder on it and copy the contents of the shared folder" is the best option for me, so that's what I will do.    ðŸ˜Š
