Suggestion: Function to ignore file conflicts

Hello

I have been using Dropbox for years. But one feature (important for me) is missing.

If possible, please integrate in the future a setting option in Dropbox that allows the user to ignore "conflicts" with files, so that always only the latest version of a file remains on Dropbox (without creating a "file conflict").

I use multiple computers working on files offline at different times.

This is a real problem, and a "shared folder" is not the solution.

Thank you very much.

Thanks for posting on the Community, Michaelp800!

We appreciate your suggestion, and it’s been passed as feedback along to our team.

Can you clarify for me though what type of files you’re usually having this issue with? We may be able to find a workaround based on that.

    Let me know.

      Hello Nancy

Thank you for your reply and forwarding the suggestion.

Mostly it is files like *.doc(x), *.mp3, *.rar etc.
So all files that are constantly changing due to my activities at my place.

I use four different PCs that are not consistently online and/or do not have Dropbox running in the background and/or are not turned on at the same time.

As a result, there are always “file conflicts” that shouldn't really be conflicts, since in my eyes only the latest version should be considered the “correct” version – regardless of which PC has changed it.

      Greetings

      Michael

Thanks for the additional info here, Michaelp800.

Have you taken a look at this article with more info on conflicted copies and how to avoid them, to see if you can find a useful workaround?

      Hey Hannah

Thank you very much for your answer.

Yes, I have read through your linked tips again.

The one tip about moving the files first, then editing them, and then moving them back, I've even tried in the past. But in practice, this is not a solution, due to the amount of data and for time reasons, this plan is unfortunately not reasonably implementable.

Currently, Dropbox does not offer me any viable solutions. The best solution would actually be a program setting that ignores file conflicts and only accepts the latest version as a valid version (this has even been suggested by other users).

I hope for a solution soon.

      Have a nice day.

      Michael
