Holy Cow!
It Works!
It Works, It works, it works.
I had stopped testing replacement software, due to frustration. So this is supreme.

This sort of works for me. However, if you then kill the Keepassdroid app and the dropbox app, it goes back to a failing state until you toggle again.

I've also got this problem, and yeah, exact same experience with the 'Make available offline' suggested workaround. For me the problem is compounded by the fact I'm still running Android 5, and Dropbox recently dropped support for Android < 6. This means I am locked into the broken 190.2.2 version, thus being excluded from any possible future bug fixes for this problem. It definitely used to work fine when launching from Dropbox, so it's 100% the app that's faulty.
For me the simple workaround is not to open Dropbox in order to open my .kdbx file. Instead, open Keepassdroid and (with my settings) it'll remember the .kdbx's filepath to open. It always seems to open an up-to-date copy of the .kdbx file, despite not opening it from the Dropbox app. - Daphne5 years agoDropbox Staff
Hey there DrRob, thanks for reaching out to us here!
Just to note, I've moved your post here as it seems that you're having a similar issue the OP described. There may be some helpful info here if you have the time to look through this thread.
Some have mentioned here that they no longer have this issue with the latest version of the mobile app. Can you check if you have any pending updates for the app at all?
If not, please let me know which version of the mobile app you're using.
Keep me posted!

My version of the Dropbox app is the current one for my device. The version number is 196.2.6
I have had success to get the .kdbx file to be opened by KeePassDroid by toggling the make available local switch. -which is a big relief.

Hi Daphne,
Apologies - the email notification about your reply went into my Spam folder and I've only just found it.
I have my phone set to update apps automatically and it's running app version 198.2.2 and I still have the problem. The Play Store app says that Dropbox updated 4h ago. Just to be sure, I closed the Dropbox app and then started it up again, but the problem persists.
I have a Samsung A5 (2017) phone (model SM-A520F) which is running Android version 8.0.0 (last update 30th April 2020).
Rob.

So, this is a good warning to all of us who have found our way to this thread to store these notes in a place where you can review them if the need to remove and replace Dropbox and/or keepassdroid arises, and keepass is no longer the default app.

Hello,
I have the same issue, which has been bugging me for a long time. I have tried all of the ideas mentioned here. Some work, but only temporarily. I have tried checking file associations, clearing data, uninstalling/reinstalling the app. Still the issue continues to occur.
I have a Moto G7, Android version 10, and I use the Dropbox app, version 202.2.2, and KeePassDroid app, version 2.5.12.
I have a fix for this which has helped _me_ on _my_ device. It might work for you, it might not. It might be temporary, it might be permanent. You may need to apply the fix again periodically. YMMV.
1.) Export the .kdbx file from Dropbox to your device.
2.) Launch FX file explorer app. (If you do not use FX, you can try other file explorers if you want. However, the one with which I tested this fix is FX. I can't vouch for any others.)
3.) Navigate to your exported .kdbx file. (Mine was exported to my Download folder. This might be different for you and your device.)
4.) Tap the .kdbx file, wait for the "Open As" dialog to appear, then tap the "OPEN AS" link at the bottom right of that dialog.
5.) Tap the entry labeled "*/* (application/* )".
6.) The "OPEN WITH" dialog should then appear. Under the "OPEN WITH APPLICATION" section, find and tap "KeePassDroid".
7.) The KeePassDroid app should then open your .kdbx file. At this point you can close FX and KeePassDroid. Or, keep them open if you want. Not sure if it makes a difference. Either way, continue to the last step.
8.) Go back to Dropbox and try opening the .kdbx file directly from Dropbox. It should now open directly in KeePassDroid.
Hope this helps.

keepassdroid is still the default app in android for kdbx files.
I switched now to nextcloud and it works well.
