Hi Alan Hsiao,
Upload session is needed since there is no other way the content uploaded to be refered and when multipart upload is on go, session id does this work (upload referencing). Even on single pass upload (small file), a temporary upload session is created internally that usually doesn't need additional management on application side. On download there is file/folder path or id and both can be used to refer the content. If you need multipass download, a RANGE request can get in use. 😉
Hope this helps.

Alan Hsiao Здравко is correct; there isn't a concept of a "download session", but you can download files in pieces across multiple requests if needed. Content-download style endpoints, such as /2/files/download, support Range requests for downloading only a portion of a file.
