I’ve just found out when you change Laptop / Desktop you can’t continue to use the same external hard drive with Dropbox Backup. This is absolute madness. If you want to continue to use that hard drive with Dropbox Backup you have to re upload the full HD. I have 2TB used on a 4TB external SSD and I’ve just changed to a new MacBook. I’m having to spend three days uploading / backing-up all my data again just to continue to use that same drive with the new device. What a waste of energy, electricity, data and bandwidth. For no reason. My old backup is sitting there in my account with all the same data and I just have to re-upload 2TB of the exact same files for no reason other than Dropbox can’t set up a way to re-link an external hard drive on on a new system. I can’t believe this is the current state of affairs for this service.557Views2likes8CommentsVery slow upload speed when using the Dropbox site

1. So the idea is that once you plug in your charger, dropbox automatically uploads all your photos into the library. 2. This could be optional with sliding on off button. It could also be combined, so that when your phone is charging, and you are connected to Wi-Fi. It will start to upload your photos. 3. They could also be a third option, including both of the before mentioned solutions, but it would also synchronize your whole dropbox. All uploads and downloads would happen in this period. That way, you will never have to worry about using up all your battery at an inconvenient time,or all ofyour monthly amount of gigabytes from your service provider.14Views0likes0CommentsA large scanned PDF did not upload and is missing, can I find it in the iOS mobile app?
Hi, tldr; scanned document didn‘t finish the upload without showing errors or any trace of the file; how to recover the data? Last days I had to scan a lot of documents and though there was a weak connection everything went fine initially. A couple of the uploads were stuck, some waiting, some with errors. All of them finished when I took a break in a wifi hotspot and all those files are safe on the server. The last document had many pages (>50), so I didn‘t wonder when the sandbox showed for a longer time. As everything went fine before, I changed the app and worked on something else. When I switched back to Dropbox App minutes later, there was no sign of any upload running, nothing in the queue, no errors. And no trace of my big file anywhere. In the meantime I also checked the events, but no surprise, the server didn‘t catch this one. Question: Is there any chance to recover the pages of the scan and redo the upload? I have spent a long time to adjust dozens of corners and the original documents are not so easy to access again. The file must have been generated somewhere locally on my device, so can I retrieve that with some ios tools? I didn‘t close the app nor did I restart the device, so I have still some hope. I use browsers and the apps on iPad and iPhone. The scan was taken with the DropBox App 404.2.2 on iPhone 13 running IOS 18.1.1 with plenty of memory space left on iPhone and Dropbox server.10Views0likes3CommentsMac backup 0% complete, 'Backup now' is grey, says will complete in 1 sec but no movement.
I noticed Dropbox Backup today, looks good for my needs as a long time solo user w/ a 2TB account. Selected documents and music folders in my Mac user account, all looked OK then....nothing, no movement. Stuck at 0% even though it says updating 2,367 files and 1 sec remaining. Nothing, nada. I've rebooted, removed the external drive I wanted to also backup, re-installed Dropbox, no other cloud service-connected files are present in anything I want to backup, tried automatic backups on and off....but nothing. The 'Backup now' is also greyed out whatever I do. I've looked at various Db help pages but nothing. Any ideas appreciated. Also why no Backup label? Mac 13.4.1 Ventura Latest Dropbox4.3KViews0likes26CommentsWe need an official Dropbox data migration app for faster migration to new machines.
Hi There, Even with a 200Mbps up/down internet connection and a gigabit ethernet connection to a Mac on the same network, it still takes days to migrate Terabytes of data to a new Mac. I've read the instructions about not migrating data via disk copy/migration apps but it's unacceptably slow to login to Dropbox, and wait for a sync to transfer data. REQUEST: Create a Dropbox migration app that properly copies Dropbox data from one disk to another. That way, we could connect two Macs via thunderbolt, copy the data via the app and only wait for a sync/check, no copying of actual data. Hope that makes sense. If that doesn't work then please, there has to be a faster way. Cheers, Ben59Views0likes3CommentsI find the dbxcli slow when it comes to the chunk file sizes.
unfortunately for big files I find the dbxcli to be really slow due to the very small default chunk size, for which unfortunately there is no option atm. has the development of dbxcli stopped for good or can we hope for a new version with at least the possibility to set the chuck size?63Views0likes5CommentsMy videos are automatically uploaded to Instagram. How can I stop it?
Something has changed here for the worse. Why is Dropbox making decisions for me without my permission?? I have uploaded a video which then I was going to post to Instagram FROM my Instagram account, in the process of which I need to add collaborators, tag people, add description etc. But the moment my video was uploaded, I saw it said UPLOADED TO INSTAGRAM. What????? I did NOT select or authorise an auto upload. I don't allow anything auto as I need to control the process with additional information and action. Idid NOT link my Instagram account with Dropbox. So where and how exactly it has posted my video? When I searched online, the instructions I found are confusing as I can't find anything they are talking about. So here are my questions: 1. I did NOT select or authorise an auto upload. I don't allow anything auto as I need to control the process with additional information and action. Why is Dropbox posting my uploaded videos to Instagram without my permission? How does it decide that the video reel is for Instagram? It might be for a completely different purpose NOT to be published in Insta!!! 2. How can I stop it? Online posts say I need to change the BACKUP setting under Preferences - but I do NOT have this option there. This is terribly confusing and frustrating. I want to be able to upload a video without an AI deciding what it is and what to do with it !!! That's something I DECIDE and did NOT give the Dropbox AI my permission to do anything on my behalf!! 3. Does it actually post those videos to the account timeline? Some online post say that this is a BACKUP. So is it a backup or it is actually posted to Instagram?? I didn't wait to check and quickly deleted the video. I can't risk it being posted without me doing what I need to do with it first. Where exactly is this BACKUP setting? I can't see it anywhere in my dashboard. Could someone please explain this mess to me and tell me how the heck can I STOP all those auto decisions by AI on my account. In the meantime I have to use my email to upload this reel from my phone. thanksSolved124Views0likes12Comments
