Feature Request: Enhanced Sharing Capabilities on Dropbox 1. Multiple Share Links with Independent Settings and Permissions Request: The ability to create separate share links for the same file/folder, each with unique permissions (e.g., view-only, comment-only, edit) and security settings (e.g., password protection, expiration dates). Why It’s Important: It’s common to share one file with different stakeholders who each require different levels of access. Separate links improve security and reduce confusion. 2. Send and Track Analytics for Shared Files Request: A feature that provides insights into how shared links are accessed—who’s viewing them, when, and how many times they’ve been viewed. Why It’s Important: Built-in analytics enable better tracking of engagement, making it easier to measure file reach and ensure important documents are actually seen. 3. Version Updates on Existing Send and Track Links Request: The ability to replace or update a file on an existing shared link (especially a “Send and Track” link) without having to issue a new link. Why It’s Important: Files often go through revisions; allowing in-place updates ensures recipients always have the most recent version, saving time and reducing the chance of outdated information circulating. These enhancements would streamline workflows for Dropbox users, particularly those who frequently share files in professional or collaborative settings.9Views0likes0CommentsIDEA: Remove "Log in or sign up" popup when downloading from a shared link
This issue has been brought up by many people in discussion posts this year, but there has still been no solution, so I am creating an idea post here: I share view-only download links with my clients almost every day, but when they click the "Download" button, a pop-up box now appears, prompting them to log in or sign up. There is an option at the bottom of the box that says "Or continue with download only," but it is in small text and easily overlooked. As a result, I’ve received many emails from clients asking why they need to sign in to download the files, something they never had to do before. To resolve this, I have to send them screenshots highlighting the option, which is time-consuming and unprofessional. I also end up with some clients creating Dropbox accounts because they think they have to, and then requesting access to join the folder. Additionally, I had a client insist that this option was not available for them and went back and forth with them before I found out that they had their browser zoomed in slightly and the download button was blocked by Dropbox's cookie notice (see image below). I also brought up this cookie issue in my previous post (5 months ago). I have checked it recently and this cookie notice issue has been fixed, but not the popup sign in box. So it sounds like the team has heard our complaints... I have been a loyal Dropbox user for many years, but this new addition to the download process is creating a poor experience for my clients and making me appear unprofessional. While I understand Dropbox might benefit from new sign-ups, this practice feels misleading and unethical. Your business users deserve better than this. I really hope Dropbox can come to its senses and remove this pop-up box entirely. What is happening?
I am very confused. I've had a personal Dropbox for quite some time that I really never used. I was granted access to someone else's box not long ago so that I could read and add files to their box. Any of the files I have added have appeared in that person's box. Soon thereafter, I have been getting messages about being "over my limit,"that my personal Dropbox has "stopped syncing," and that files may be "deleted." I cannot for the life of me figure out what's going on because I have not added anything to my personal account. Does this mean the files in the other person's box will be deleted because I am among those it was shared with, or the one who added some? That is my main concern. If there are files in my personal box that I cannot see or don't know about, I honestly am not worried. But I do not want to negatively affect others because of this situation. Thank you for any insight. MichaelSolved38Views0likes4CommentsOption to lock a file/folder granting view-only access for individual plans
It would enhance ransomware protection if folders or files could be marked as "read-only", where only a change/rename/erasure is password protected. Read-only is supported for teams, the request is for individual users. Password protection is also available but is for any access - which makes it uncomfortable when reading data; In my case, and I assume for many private users, 99% of the data is never changed once uploaded - family pictures, documents etc. Motivation is to enhance protection in case an unauthorized party got access to your account and has the ability to erase your data - such as a virus or ransomware attack. So the aim is not privacy - it is erasure protection, while not complicating everyday viewing with a password for every read.31Views1like1CommentDo collaborators automatically have access to new documents in shared content?
When I add new documents to a folder, do my collaborators who have access automatically receive access to the new documents? I notice there's a pop up box that has the option to send to them for review, but I just want to know they have an updated folder with the new documents. Thanks.15Views0likes1CommentPeople I shared my folders with cannot access due to "not enough space" - this is unacceptable.
I am the tech lead for my church and I have people who take photos of services and events. I wanted to use Dropbox as a place where they could upload their photos and the Pastor and I could get them to use for our website and other multi-media uses. I personally upgraded to a 3TB plan so that I would have plenty of space for them to be able to share their photos and videos without the need to do so in small chunks requiring me to keep going in there and removing them. I wasn't aware that Dropbox counts shared folders against their storage space allotted. IF this is indeed the case, I'm going to want a full refund of the year I purchased in advanced. I don't like shady scummy practices like that. I have worked in consulting for years and have had companies use their file share services to share files with me and I could create new accounts there and get what I needed without ever running into anything like this. So I'm first of all wondering if there is a better way of doing this? Why should my entire team pay for the same space that I already purchased? I really hope someone has a solution that can work. Thanks in advance.896Views1like8CommentsOpen shared links directly in native app
A few years have passed since this request and as a business this would save us allot of time and irritation. As a company we share daily hundreds of links to files via Microsoft Teams with each other. Now the situation is as follow: 1 link is shared 2 team member clicks on the link 3 browser opens the link to the file 4 user clicks on 'open in dropbox' button Ideal situation would be that admins and users have a File open preference, where links to files can directly open in the native apps: 1 link is shared 2 team member clicks on it and the file is synced and opened in the native app Microsoft Teams has a great solution to this problem for Office-applications, called File open preference, see screenshot. It would be great if Dropbox could also build this feature in it's Dropbox-apps.8.2KViews17likes5Comments
