Hi there, A specific USB stick was being automatically backed up on Dropbox every time I inserted it to my previous laptop. Now that I changed to a new laptop, I want this back up process with that specific USB stick to continue in the same way it was, when I insert it to my new laptop. How can I manage this? Thanks in advance for your answer. Best35Views0likes3CommentsCan I download my external drive backup onto my new external drive?
Hello The external USB hard drive which I used with Dropbox Backup was physically damaged and will not connect. I would like to download 1TB of files stored in Dropbox Backup to put onto a new drive. Is there a way to point the entire Dropbox backup at a new drive? Reading this, if I log out and log back into Dropbox on my Mac, my only computer, can I point Dropbox Backup to a new External and have it download all of the files slowly? Utilizing the web interface is riddled with errors that there are too many .zip files in the folders. Thank you13Views0likes1CommentWhy is Dropbox Backup using up 3.5 GB? How can I check what's taking up storage?
Hi, I'm one of the users who suddenly lost god knows how much storage space and Dropbox stopped syncing, even though I keep almost nothing in those folders. I've tried deleting all the shared folders from years ago and whatever else I assumed was taking up space (images, mostly) and I'm still very low on personal files but all topped up in "Backup." Everyone else's posts in the community had their own Backup levels at 0. What exactly is taking up 3.5 GB of space in mine? Thank you!Solved17Views0likes3CommentsSize discrepancy between Dropbox and the content in my drive.
When i look at one of my folders online it says about 840gb. Meanwhile on my external drive locally the file is 874.94 GB How come this large discrepancy. It makes me worried to have my files on dropbox if there may be files left unsynced. It is entirely synced however i recently renamed the folder and im waiting for dropbox to say "synced" before proceeding. I have seen loads of people having these kinds of issues with Dropbox since 3 years ago. Unfortunately this issue remained unsolved by dropbox until today. What happened was I joined our company Dropbox team a few months ago. Now they are changing the subscription, and one of my colleagues wanted to remove me from the Team. In doing so, she deleted my account due to misunderstanding of the website wordings. On my computer, my downloads, desktop, documents files are gone. I tried restoring my files from Apple time machine but failed. It says the upper files path does not exist. Some traces deleting the folder somehow broke the path to the folders. I am in desperate need of recovering my account.50Views0likes8CommentsAutomatically pause Dropbox Backup/syncing to allow unmounting of external drive.
Stop Dropbox from preventing unmounting of drives that are currently being backed up. Instead pause backup and allow unmounting. Resume backup when drive is mounted again. (Same behavior could maybe be implemented for sync (Dropbox folder), but at least for backup of external drives.) Backblaze does this, so it's clearly possible.47Views1like5CommentsSince updating to Mac OS 15.2 files and folders do not appear on my desktop
For the past few months I have been using dropbox backup to backup my desktop files and folders. Everything has been working fine until this morning when i updated my OS to Sequoia 15.2 Now my files and folders do not appear on my desktop, although the Desktop folder still seems to be syncing and can be accessed from the shortcuts in the sidebar in Finder. If i drag and drop a file to my desktop it disappears, but can then be found in the desktop folder in finder. Is anyone else experiencing this?143Views2likes5CommentsIssue restoring a backup from Dropbox down to my computer
Dear dropbox, This is my first time using this service, even though I have heard about it for a long time. My PC was recently compromised so I had to use some sort of online backup service, as I couldnt use normal Windows backup. So I backed up nearly 200gb of my essential folders such as dekstop downloads etc. Upon having a freshly installed Windows 11, I try now regain my files and put them back onto my device. But what am I met with? Absolute brain damage. 1. Why on earth is it so difficult and confusing, to simply DOWNLOAD THE FILES BACK TO THEIR RESPECTIVE FOLDERS, that they literally synced from. Why is it I try to restore my backup, and it tells me its going to create another bloody backup for what???? Then instead of downloading my files back to my local folders, it creates more backups, syncing for no reason like its under the influence of class A drugs, and is confusing my applications. For instance as I produce music, I used FL studio. Because of this amazing service, FL studio now has not [removed] Idea what files are what, in fact now im struggling to get the application to load, because of some stupid ass sync mark on the application. And if I DONT sync them they literally wont run. I click on the files and select "make available offline" repeatedly and nothing happens. As you can probably tell I'm close to losing it. Please can anyone give me advice as I simply just want to take my files FROM dropbox, BACK to my computer where they are "syncing" from, because apparently dropbox is incapable of such basic asks. I’ve just found out when you change Laptop / Desktop you can’t continue to use the same external hard drive with Dropbox Backup. This is absolute madness. If you want to continue to use that hard drive with Dropbox Backup you have to re upload the full HD. I have 2TB used on a 4TB external SSD and I’ve just changed to a new MacBook. I’m having to spend three days uploading / backing-up all my data again just to continue to use that same drive with the new device. What a waste of energy, electricity, data and bandwidth. For no reason. My old backup is sitting there in my account with all the same data and I just have to re-upload 2TB of the exact same files for no reason other than Dropbox can’t set up a way to re-link an external hard drive on on a new system. I can’t believe this is the current state of affairs for this service.571Views2likes8CommentsMac backup 0% complete, 'Backup now' is grey, says will complete in 1 sec but no movement.
I noticed Dropbox Backup today, looks good for my needs as a long time solo user w/ a 2TB account. Selected documents and music folders in my Mac user account, all looked OK then....nothing, no movement. Stuck at 0% even though it says updating 2,367 files and 1 sec remaining. Nothing, nada. I've rebooted, removed the external drive I wanted to also backup, re-installed Dropbox, no other cloud service-connected files are present in anything I want to backup, tried automatic backups on and off....but nothing. The 'Backup now' is also greyed out whatever I do. I've looked at various Db help pages but nothing. Any ideas appreciated. Also why no Backup label?
