This issue has been reported previously on the following link but is now closed to any further responses. This is an important feature that has been removed without notice or explanation. I have tried to post the hyperlink to the previous discussion, but you are not allowing this either. Please provide an update. Good evening, On one of my computers, a Linux computer (Zorin OS 17 Pro based on Ubuntu 18.04), the Dropbox application is stuck on “Start” and therefore no longer synchronizes my dropbox. Thanks in advance, Sincerely, Hervé23Views0likes2CommentsHow to return all files to offline?
I was having sync troubles so to save hard drive space I went to App/Preferences/Manage and selected all to be online. According to the app “…saves hard drive space. Files will still appear on your computer…”. But now the list is empty, and I can't figure how to return them to offline. Dropbox is not behaving according to your help files. All files sync but the online/offline/sync icons are not working, all files are either completely on my computer or not. (Backup works ok, the files sync but are completely on my computer - but that's how Backup works.) I have tried: Fresh install - restart - force quit in Activity Monitor - restarted Finder - no solution.65Views0likes19CommentsCan't open Dropbox on new macOS Sequoia 15.2 - it does't respond and closes
I've downloaded the latest Software version for Mac Os. I Install, and try to open from apps and then menu bar. Dropbox does not respond then closes. Tried a complete uninstall reinstall and same thing. Any solutions?77Views0likes8CommentsCan't delete Dropbox folders; they reappear after deletion
I've tried to delete a few folders in my Dropbox, but every time I do they reappear shortly after I delete them. Shortly as in, I don't have time to go to the trash folder on my computer or the deleted files section on the Dropbox website to click and delete them. I've followed all the suggested solutions and nothing works. I've checked the permissions; they are all labeled "Only Me." So I should be able to delete them...nope. I've checked to see if it's still syncing; it is not. Many of the folders are from a range of 1 - 7 months ago. I've deleted everything in the deleted files folder on the Dropbox site, but those folders are never in there to be able to delete because they restore immediately. Tried to clear the cache, but the directions to use the command in the Finder on Mac did not work. A cache folder never appeared after I used Command + Shift + . (period). Checked previous versions to see which device is restoring the file; it's my computer. I still tried deleting it from other computers as well as my own...nothing. I tried contacting support, but it just gives me a chat box that links me back to the SAME articles I referenced for the previous steps. OR directs me to this Community Forum in which people are having the same issues as me. According to a couple of replies from the Dropbox Team, they can't go in and delete files from their end either. It's absolutely ridiculous. This is a newspaper and we use these folders (organized by date) to keep track of files for upcoming editions. I cannot delete, at this point 3 folders (up from 1 persistent one that I've been trying to delete for 7 MONTHS). It's getting cluttered and confusing in the Dropbox and it's becoming more of a hassle than anything. You never know when a file or folder is actually going to delete or not. What is even the point of having an application that only works when you need to add something, but not delete? Might as well use the Google Drive at this point.14Views0likes1CommentOpen shared links directly in native app
A few years have passed since this request and as a business this would save us allot of time and irritation. As a company we share daily hundreds of links to files via Microsoft Teams with each other. Now the situation is as follow: 1 link is shared 2 team member clicks on the link 3 browser opens the link to the file 4 user clicks on 'open in dropbox' button Ideal situation would be that admins and users have a File open preference, where links to files can directly open in the native apps: 1 link is shared 2 team member clicks on it and the file is synced and opened in the native app Microsoft Teams has a great solution to this problem for Office-applications, called File open preference, see screenshot. It would be great if Dropbox could also build this feature in it's Dropbox-apps.8.2KViews17likes6CommentsDropbox stuck uploading and downloading on Windows
Dropbox has been happily working in the background for several years, keeping a useful backup of my important data, which I store in a folder named "Dropbox". However, without me noticing it stopped working about two weeks ago, so all the work I have done since then wasn't backed up. When I realised this I hovered on on the Dropbox icon at the bottom-right and it says "Indexing 40,023 files, Uploading 19,948 files, Downloading 23,138 files". I left it for several hours but nothing changed. Resource Monitor shows the Dropbox.exe is using 18% of CPU resourced and constanlt reading and writing file on the hard drive. I read that a possible solution is to open Dropbox >> Preferences >> Accounts, press Alt anywhere in the window then Fix Hardlinks and Fix permissions, but that makes no difference. I also tried re-booting the machine but that made no difference either. In desperation I uninstalled Dropbox then re-installed it. However, that was disasterous! it downloaded all my data from the cloud (which was several weeks out-of-date) and loaded it onto my laptop with today's date! Fotunately in many cases it retained the original folder, renamed named "xxx - copy" and created a new folder "xxx" with the downloaded data. I had to look through all my Dropbox folder, deleting each "xxx" folder and renaming "xxx - copy" to "xxx". Fortunately I also do a local backup every night of most of the folders in my Dropbox folder so I was able to restore some of my data from that. However, even after that the original problem still persists so Drobox isn't backing up. A further issue is that although I have set Dropbox preferences to Open Dropbox upon startup, it doesn't open at startup. Furthermore when I checked Startup Apps in Windows Control Panel it shows Dropbox as disabled. I re-enambled it, but next time I re-boot it is disabled again. What's gone wrong with Dropbox! How do I get it working again?31Views0likes5CommentsFile Sync to new PC - for offline availability
Hi there - I have had my PC replaced and setup Dropbox on my new one. The files are visible but I would like to sync them for offline use. Can you please advise how to go about that as I am unable to find solution details. Thank you.Solved370Views0likes7CommentsSync Dropbox across Multiple Drives
This topic has been posted before....but the function is still badly needed. I have a business account with 4.5 TB of data. I need to have that data available offline for multiple reasons. Some of that data for simply long term storage. Other portions are for daily use in our business. We desperately need a way to span our personal and team data across more than 1 drive. Long term data can be stored on a standard mechanical drive, while daily access folders can be stored on SSD drives for better performance and drive space management. These has been a need for well over 10 years.24Views0likes1CommentDropbox needs to change permissions for the Folder...
Mid-December, my Mac updated to the latest OS. macOS Sequoia 15.2 (24C101). Since then, Dropbox needs to change permissions for the Folder: /Users/ ############/.dropbox every time I restart my Mac and a few times throughout the day. I have tried to check every permission possible to no avail. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Dropbox with admin privileges. Any ideas to resolve this small annoyance?
