Dear Dropbox Support and Community, As a long-standing Dropbox customer with a 3TB Dropbox Pro subscription, I am very surprised. When I switched my entire work environment to Mac M1/M2 chipsets (over a year ago), I simply couldn't use Dropbox anymore because syncing kept taking days, etc. In the meantime, I used competitors' products (Google, PCloud) and left my dearly paid-for DropBox subscription unused in the corner. Due to a new customer, the use/collaboration with Dropbox is once again becoming topical and necessary. And what can I say, obviously it is not possible to create a functioning software product in a year despite my freshly debited subscription fees of almost $200. Although I did a complete clean install on my Mac M1 Studio and the Macbook Pro M2, following the instructions on the internet, and selected only very small folders with 4-6 files and under 1 GB for the first synchronization, I (like many others in this forum) get stuck at an infinite indexation. I have installed version v208.4.5824 on both devices. I not only did a clean install but also removed all devices from the Dropbox security settings beforehand. Both devices have more than enough hard disk space. Both the “online only” and “available offline” synchronization options were tried. Different folders were selected on both devices to avoid a possible conflict here as well. Both devices synchronize into the “old” folder under “Users/xxx/Dropbox”, because the update for the Dropbox folder according to the new Mac OS 14.6.1 fails miserably and every time it tells me that the update for macOS with file providers cannot yet be carried out. I can only wonder how DropBox can continue to offer such a mess and is not ashamed when they debit my subscription fees annually. I hope for help from the community, as even the support e-mails in March 2023 were fruitless and just infuriated me. When logging into my Mac, I got an alert that an attempt by "Dropbox, Inc" to modify something in my system, was blocked, and that I should open the "Security&Privacy" in my System Preferences to enable it. Indeed, I found there a message 'System software from developer 'Dropbox, Inc.' was blocked from loading. I can't find any hint that this is really coming from Dropbox, or what modification would actually be performed, if I would allow this, and therefore keep it blocked. How can I find out, whether this was not a fishing attempt, but legally came from Dropbox? I keep getting a notification there is "Dropbox for Windows Update" which I do not want to install (it changes the way items are displayed in the dropbox folder). I found the below article to turn off this specific notification. I followed the steps under but when I get to step 5 to open advanced settings then try to comlete step 6 "opt out for dropbox for windows updates" that option does not appear. Your most recent Win 10 update and the Win 10 installation file offered on your website are both defective, though my account files on your website and via my iPhone still work just fine. You automatically updated an operative Dropbox on my Windows 10 (64 bit) PC three days ago, rendering it inoperative. No previously operative links to it, as well as directly clicking on the recently update dropbox.exe file now work. All now simply time out with no error message. So I downloaded your install file from your web site and ran it. It ran and exited without running Dropbox (as most updates typically do). No improvement. Dropbox will still not run on this machine, even after rebooting. So I downloaded and ran your installation file on another Windows 10 (64 bit) machine which had no previously installed Dropbox as a test. Same result. It won't run on that machine either. Every so often Dropbox updates itself, which is good, mostly. It also makes a log of its updates, which is good, mostly. Unfortunately, I now have 1,994 old update logs on my C: drive, dating back to 24-07-2020, and every time I use a malware scanner every one of these logs is summoned to give evidence, which is not good, all the time. I am able to trim the rubbish on other software collections, but Dropbox insists that only the owner can delete its logs, and won't tell me which entity is the owner. FWIW, I've used Dropbox far longer than 4 years, and I was able to delete all logs dated prior to 24-07-2020 with no noticeable untoward catastrophes happening. I would like to not only save time on the malware scans, but also put the 82.5 megabytes to better use. Maybe we only need the last 5 logs as a fall-back measure? So, who is the "owner"? I am on Windows 11, latest release and my Dropbox is also stuck on updating. The Dropbox version is the same. I am also receiving an error that I have not received before. Recent security changes in our org require users to be standard local users on their computers, which means they do not have authorization to install their own applications. In most cases, this is alright becuase we remotely install them. It appears that DropBox tries to install their auto-updater and requires local admin access to do so. We want to keep the app updated on managed clients, but how do we enable this so we don't need to type in the admin password for it to install?501Views0likes3Comments
