You might see that the Dropbox Community team have been busy working on some major updates to the Community itself! So, here is some info on what’s changed, what’s staying the same and what you can expect from the Dropbox Community overall.
Shared Links
987 TopicsThe shared link URL is different on the website vs the URL from the Windows app
In website the url contains &st=xxxxxx so we can use the link with with dl.dropboxusercontent.com ending with ;raw=1 While the windows app's sharing link doesn't include the &st=xxxxxx hence chaging dl.dropboxusercontent.com ending with ;raw=1 doesn't work.831Views0likes5CommentsI need to be able to send files to people without a Dropbox account, but can't anymore.
I received an email from Dropbox this morning that said, "Please sign in!We noticed you're not taking advantage of your Dropbox account." That's right, I'm not, I haven't been signing in, and I'll tell you why. I always used Dropbox to share files with other people. If I'm not mistaken, you ruined that functionality by suddenly insisting that the only people you could share files with were those who had Dropbox accounts themselves. This made Dropbox essentially useless, at least to me and I'm sure to many others. Restore your previous functionality and I'll be happy to again sign into my account and take advantage of it. Thank you.13Views0likes1CommentCan I link a folder to another website gallery and export the folder structure from Dropbox?
I am helping my father in law get his collection of postcards into an online gallery. I am hoping to use the Wix website to create a database of the postcards and include the web URL that each can be found at. All of his postcards are in a Dropbox folder. The issue is that there are over 10,000 postcard images that need adding to the database collection. With this volume, it makes sense to use the Import facility available in Wix. So I need a way of: Getting the folder structure from Dropbox, including subfolders and files into a spreadsheet Making an entire Dropbox folder public including subfolders and files Constructing the web URL from the filename and folder info obtained in step 1 I believe I can do step one easily enough through Excel and using the "Get Data" from folder. I also believe it is easy enough to give public access to a particular folder. My issue is creating the individual web URLs that will be in the sub folders. I don't want to have to visit each f the 10,000 items and copy and paste the public URL for the image into a spreadsheet. Hopefully that makes sense, but if not please ask for clarification and I will do my best :)60Views0likes5CommentsMy public folder is no longer being shared to everyone, why?
I have been using DropBox for over 10 years ... but recently things have changed, in W11 seems very different. For example, I have a public folder .. and I set this to be available to all to view ... and its subfolders & contents, been working fine. Now the 'Public' folder is set to only me ..... plus contacts are limited, how can I reset it to be available to anyone When people try to access any file in it they get a message that they need approval. How do I set the folder AND all of its subfolders AND contents to be available? We recently chose Dropbox as the best-looking and most functional drive-sharing tool for our video production company. However, there's an annoying popup prompting clients to log in or sign up when we share links. The "Continue with download only" button is easily missed, especially by older clients, making us look unprofessional. It's frustrating that such a customizable platform has this issue. We hope for a solution soon!4.5KViews7likes28CommentsAPI Error "path/not_found" when creating shared_link
When interacting with the API, I get a path/not_found error. This happens when I upload a file to dropbox using the path /2/files/upload. After that, I create a link to the file using the path /2/sharing/create_shared_link and specify the path_display received after uploading the file. The error occurs very rarely, but it does not allow you to get a link. What could be the problem?80Views0likes3Comments"That didn't work for some reason" error; I can't open my shared link.
I have a shared link to a gaming document that I've been using for a while. However, every time I've tried to use the link over the pass couple of days, I get the message shown below. I've refreshed the page, used different browsers, cleared my cache, but nothing seems to work. I've had others test the link and they've been able to use it just fine, so I don't believe the document has been delete. Does anyone know how I might be able to access it again?Solved49Views0likes10CommentsPersistent Shared Links (Regardless of the status of the user who created the link)
Our organization is approximately 45 people. Among other many other uses, we use Dropbox to share links with one another. This helps us locate documents in Windows File Explorer (regardless of the local path on a given machine) and sometimes to support needs on projects. Something we learned the hard way recently is that Dropbox links only last as long as the user who created them. This was extremely disappointing to learn. We were building a database for a project that had thousands of person-hours in it. Crucially, this database needs to live on for our client beyond our involvement. Each row referred to a location on our shared drive where an asset was located. As there are storage limitations within the database platform we were using (AirTable), it made sense to share a link to the location on Dropbox where it was stored. Bonus points that we could control access to that asset on Dropbox's side, rather than having to filter out through access controls within the database. This worked well until we noticed some links were leading to errors we had never seen before. We troubleshooted for some time until we realized all of the broken links were created by users who were no longer with our company. On a project like this, most of the grunt-work was done by temporary interns. This led us to the realization that Dropbox is ill-suited to this task because links are related only to the user, not to the organization paying for the subscription. We have now had to ask our client for a scope change to bring on a different cloud software because of this strange (and frustrating) behaviour. We are testing Google Drive, Box, and One Drive. If any of these platforms allow persistent links, we will be seriously considering moving our entire organization over. Shared links in shared drives should persist indefinitely (or as long as the organization exists and is paying for a dropbox subscription).1.3KViews0likes6Comments
