You might see that the Dropbox Community team have been busy working on some major updates to the Community itself! So, here is some info on what’s changed, what’s staying the same and what you can expect from the Dropbox Community overall.
Shared Links
980 Topics"That didn't work for some reason" error; I can't open my shared link.
I have a shared link to a gaming document that I've been using for a while. However, every time I've tried to use the link over the pass couple of days, I get the message shown below. I've refreshed the page, used different browsers, cleared my cache, but nothing seems to work. I've had others test the link and they've been able to use it just fine, so I don't believe the document has been delete. Does anyone know how I might be able to access it again?Solved41Views0likes10CommentsPersistent Shared Links (Regardless of the status of the user who created the link)
Our organization is approximately 45 people. Among other many other uses, we use Dropbox to share links with one another. This helps us locate documents in Windows File Explorer (regardless of the local path on a given machine) and sometimes to support needs on projects. Something we learned the hard way recently is that Dropbox links only last as long as the user who created them. This was extremely disappointing to learn. We were building a database for a project that had thousands of person-hours in it. Crucially, this database needs to live on for our client beyond our involvement. Each row referred to a location on our shared drive where an asset was located. As there are storage limitations within the database platform we were using (AirTable), it made sense to share a link to the location on Dropbox where it was stored. Bonus points that we could control access to that asset on Dropbox's side, rather than having to filter out through access controls within the database. This worked well until we noticed some links were leading to errors we had never seen before. We troubleshooted for some time until we realized all of the broken links were created by users who were no longer with our company. On a project like this, most of the grunt-work was done by temporary interns. This led us to the realization that Dropbox is ill-suited to this task because links are related only to the user, not to the organization paying for the subscription. We have now had to ask our client for a scope change to bring on a different cloud software because of this strange (and frustrating) behaviour. We are testing Google Drive, Box, and One Drive. If any of these platforms allow persistent links, we will be seriously considering moving our entire organization over. Shared links in shared drives should persist indefinitely (or as long as the organization exists and is paying for a dropbox subscription).1.3KViews0likes6CommentsAPI Error "path/not_found" when creating shared_link
When interacting with the API, I get a path/not_found error. This happens when I upload a file to dropbox using the path /2/files/upload. After that, I create a link to the file using the path /2/sharing/create_shared_link and specify the path_display received after uploading the file. The error occurs very rarely, but it does not allow you to get a link. What could be the problem?36Views0likes1CommentRemove "Log in or sign up" Popup when downloading from a shared link
We recently chose Dropbox as the best-looking and most functional drive-sharing tool for our video production company. However, there's an annoying popup prompting clients to log in or sign up when we share links. The "Continue with download only" button is easily missed, especially by older clients, making us look unprofessional. It's frustrating that such a customizable platform has this issue. We hope for a solution soon!4.5KViews5likes27CommentsMy shared link video preview freezes on Chrome, but not Safari.
Hi Dropbox Community, I’m experiencing an issue with video playback on a Dropbox-shared link in Chrome. Here’s what’s happening: When I open the link in Chrome, the video plays but intermittently freezes in the middle. However, when I view the same video link in Safari, it plays smoothly without any interruptions. My internet connection is fast, so I don’t think it’s a connectivity issue. I’ve tried disabling Chrome extensions, clearing my cache, and even adjusting hardware acceleration, but the issue persists in Chrome specifically. here's the format of my link: [removed] Has anyone else encountered this issue with Dropbox videos on Chrome, or is there any recommended solution?90Views1like9CommentsI get an error every time I open another user's shared link.
Im trying to open a link that somebody shared with me. When I click on the link a new tab opens and I can see the page loading for a split second then it gives this error message: Tell me what should I do to fix your website?34Views1like6CommentsShared links are prompting external users to join team
8 times out of 10 when we send out links for view to people outside our company the ask to join our group. Can you make it more obvious for them to click Skip to View? They ask to join are team almost every time and the point is to share the view. Thanks21Views0likes1CommentThe shared link I sent out truncates the names of files included. Can I adjust the name column?
I’m trying to share a collection of files with non Dropbox users by sending them a link. The files have long names. When the recipients click on the link they get a list of files with very shortened names, such that they cannot tell at a glance which file is which. On the other hand the column showing the size of the files is much wider than needed. Is there any way to give more space to the names of the files? Also, why is the file order seen by the recipients not the same as the order I see in my own Dropbox folder?35Views0likes7CommentsMy sharing got suspended
Error in call to API function /2/sharing/create_shared_link_with_settings: We’ve suspended your sharing activity because of a violation of Dropbox’s Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy, and Terms of Service or Services Agreement. Could someone please show me how to rectify this issue? -When I click through to support it says support is no available with my plan -When I review the list of violations I don't believe I'm in breach of any of them -I can't see anywhere to accept any new terms of service Thanks in advance! 🙂108Views0likes3Comments
