Shared Folders
857 TopicsI can no longer accept an invite with an alternate account.
Hello, I've been using Dropbox for probably 15 years. I've been using my account since it had just a few MB and recall doing Dropquest yearly to pick up a few more. You can say I am attached to this account. That said, I pay for Dropbox Plus these days. This is a personal account, however, I got my employer to start using it as well (though we do not pay for Teams or Business, just multiple Plus accounts). My account is a mix of personal contents (camera uploads) and work shared folders. When dealing with folders from 3rd party work associates, they used to send me invites to my work email address (which has no Dropbox account), and if I clicked on that invite, the invite would approve within my personal account. I assume this is because I had the link. It didn't matter if this was a shared folder or just a single file or just view permissions. At some point in the past year or two, this all changed. It may have been longer ago, I can't remember. Now, when someone invites me to a shared folder at my work account and I follow the link, my only option is to Request Access with my personal account. Why is this? Is there a way I can add my work email address as an alias for my personal Dropbox account? I do not want two Dropbox accounts... and the approach that is presented when Dropbox tries to make me a 2nd account is all wrong. Two accounts would be acceptable in the future ONLY if sync could be aggregated or carefully managed. I don't want two sync clients running. What are my options here? And what changed?19Views0likes1CommentRemove External User(s) Delete Ability
PLEASE allow us to restrict the ability of external users to delete files and folders in a shared folder. I just ran into an issue where a user, that had edit permission, deleted all of the files and folders in a shared folder. Allow us to restrict the ability to delete by users. Or change the view permission to upload files and folders. This seems so easy to do, yet it doesn't happen. If I'm missing a setting, please enlighten me. Thank you.27Views0likes3CommentsOpen dropbox file/folder links open on desktop
Hi there. Love Dropbox. I moved our whole team to it from Google Drive much to all of our delight. The one hiccup that keeps coming up (was also an issue with Drive, but would be a game changing new feature from DB) is sharing links. Our team uses the desktop app to work with files directly in finder, but we share links to files and folders on slack and in email, etc... Right now we click a link, it opens the browser as expected, we find the file path in browser and then follow that path in finder. That seems like an awful lot of work when we have a direct connection between our finder and dropbox in the app. Perhaps the website could provide a link that connects to the desktop app, opening the folder/file in finder or windows explorer. Seems like a reasonable option to me, but what do others think?25Views1like1CommentWhy canât I invite someone to my shared folders?
Hi, I run a Dropbox account for our local club of 25 members. it is the free basic account . we have a new member but I can't find now where you invite a new person , I can add their email address but that isn't the same as them getting an invite to reply to. Just like others have shared, the option to remove myself from a shared folder is not appearing. I needed to upload some large files to an organization's dropbox, which is owned by the organization. I am not the owner of any of the individual files or folders yet I still can't remove myself. I also am technically out of space so I can't add the last file I need to for this folder -_-... I am thinking if I can remove myself and then re-add it, I can add that last file and be done with it. I don't need access to it regularly, the whole point is transferring these files to this organization.33Views0likes8CommentsI can't access shared folder due to lack of storage space - do I need to upgrade?
I use dropbox occasionally. I have a free account, one I've had for years. This morning I logged in to access some files a friend shared w/me & dropbox will not let me access it unless I upgrade to some "plan". That page is the same page with which I was greeted upon logging in. I'm at about 650 mg of my 2G free account limit. I am not over storage, unless my free account has been somehow restricted/modified. I've tried several times to access the notification to "join folder" from my friend, only to be taken to this prompt:Solved163Views0likes10CommentsI'm trying to move a shared folder, but it's getting copied instead.
I am trying to move shared folders, not created by me, I was told this is possible without affecting the content or other users. However when I try to move a shared folder it duplicates in the place of destination as a non-shared folder, and stays in its original place. Had anyone had this problem and found a solution?Solved43Views0likes5CommentsShared folder disappeared from my account (owner). How can I restore it?
I shared a folder (years ago) and now it has disappeared from my Dropbox, but still exists in the other person's Dropbox and still shows me as the owner. It is not in my deleted files. How can I recover access to the folder?Solved84Views0likes6CommentsCan't add a file inside a shared folder when using the desktop app. It says I need permission.
I am the owner of a shared folder that is available on my desktop. However, I cannot add any files to that folder. I get an error that I don't have permission. However, I can add files to that folder when I'm on the web.Solved62Views0likes8CommentsWhy is my account full because of shared files?
Hello ! I have no files on my Dropbox Basic, but connected to 2.3 GB shared files. The shared files are not my files â someone else is paying a fee to store them on Dropbox. Is that an error that Dropbox is asking me to upgrade for accessing the shared files or just a way for Dropbox to get paid twice...?! Thank you for sharing your opinion... :)Solved79Views0likes3Comments
