Shared Folders
793 TopicsCan't delete Dropbox folders; they reappear after deletion
I've tried to delete a few folders in my Dropbox, but every time I do they reappear shortly after I delete them. Shortly as in, I don't have time to go to the trash folder on my computer or the deleted files section on the Dropbox website to click and delete them. I've followed all the suggested solutions and nothing works. I've checked the permissions; they are all labeled "Only Me." So I should be able to delete them...nope. I've checked to see if it's still syncing; it is not. Many of the folders are from a range of 1 - 7 months ago. I've deleted everything in the deleted files folder on the Dropbox site, but those folders are never in there to be able to delete because they restore immediately. Tried to clear the cache, but the directions to use the command in the Finder on Mac did not work. A cache folder never appeared after I used Command + Shift + . (period). Checked previous versions to see which device is restoring the file; it's my computer. I still tried deleting it from other computers as well as my own...nothing. I tried contacting support, but it just gives me a chat box that links me back to the SAME articles I referenced for the previous steps. OR directs me to this Community Forum in which people are having the same issues as me. According to a couple of replies from the Dropbox Team, they can't go in and delete files from their end either. It's absolutely ridiculous. This is a newspaper and we use these folders (organized by date) to keep track of files for upcoming editions. I cannot delete, at this point 3 folders (up from 1 persistent one that I've been trying to delete for 7 MONTHS). It's getting cluttered and confusing in the Dropbox and it's becoming more of a hassle than anything. You never know when a file or folder is actually going to delete or not. What is even the point of having an application that only works when you need to add something, but not delete? Might as well use the Google Drive at this point.38Views0likes1CommentMore efficient method to share/unshare folders/files
Reviving this closed suggestion from two years ago. The current method of sharing folders is painfully slow, especially if you have a group of users where only certain users get access to certain folders. You have to go person-by-person to add, delete or change the type of access. Each time you submit, it takes several seconds to update one user. It is especially cumbersome when the members change frequently (people leave/join a group.) I suggest a "bulk" or "batch" method of changing sharing of folders using checkboxes or buttons. When you click on the share icon for a folder, it would bring up a popup window showing all existing share members, their options, and the ability to change attributes, and add new members. Here's a sample view of the window. The same technique can be used for files too.40Views1like1CommentMy account is out of quota because someone gave me access to their account

Duplicate Files & Folders - I desperately need help! I have been with Dropbox for 15 years probably almost from day one. I have been syncing folders between Dropbox, Google Drive and my Synology Servers for several years now too. And because of this, I have thousands and thousands of duplicate files. It's certainly not all Dropbox's fault, in fact, drop box has been by far the best cloud storage system I have ever used, but somewhere along the way my folders and files have been duplicating and duplicating again, so many times now I couldn't even begin to count. Long story, short is that I have about 15 or 16 TB worth of data right now on Dropbox, & my guess is that at least 10 of these TB's are duplicate folders/files. I have spent countless hours days weeks in a futile attempt to delete the duplicates. I have spent years desperately trying to get everything organized. But I feel like it's only gotten worse. And at this point, I'm just beside myself I don't even know what to do anymore. Google Drive also has about the 15 TBS in it. About a month and a half ago I used an app called Filerev to mass delete duplicate files and folders in Drive. Filerev was also supposed to remove empty folders. Neither solution worked. In fact, file river pretty much just moved all of my files to my Google Drive trash folder. And, what's worse is that because Google Drive permanently deletes items that are in your trash folder after 30 days, my files are getting permanently deleted, more each day. I guess I should temporarily turn off the sync between Google Drive and Dropbox until I get this straightened out. I am going to do that right now. I'm looking for any advice at this point. Obviously I need to remove these duplicate files/folders ASAP. It's impossible to find anything. It's a total mess. I've got multiple files with the same names that have been edited at different times and are located in completely different folders. Ugh. It's just too much for any one person to even think about fixing manually, which is the only solution Dropbox has ever offered me. Does anyone know of an app that might actually work? I am open to any and all solutions. If anyone knows anything that I can do to fix this, I would be eternally grateful. Thanks in advance... Hi, I am unable to share a folder from my dropbox with another dropbox user as i get an error saying that 'a phishing tentative' was detected. What type of file could trigger such error ? My files are mainly PDF, doc and excel files. Thank you A.40Views0likes3CommentsChoose location for folders shared with me?
When files or folders are shared with me, they are automatically placed in the default shared location. However, for organizational purposes and to maintain consistency within my existing project directories, it would be highly beneficial to have the ability to specify the location where shared folders are stored. This functionality would allow me to directly nest shared folders within the relevant project directories, streamlining my workflow and ensuring all related files are easily accessible in one place.Solved40Views0likes6Comments
