Moving
52 TopicsI'm unable to move a folder back to the team space from my personal folder
I saw a question like this in the forum, but the instructions don't seem to apply to me. I noticed that a folder my whole team has access to is now in my personal folder within the team/business Dropbox account. People still have access, but it is in the wrong place. I assume I accidentally dragged it in there. The instructions I've found say I should be able to hover over the folder, see the 3 dots, and select "move," but "move" is not an option that comes up when I do that. When I try to copy or drag the folder out of my personal folder to the main team folder, the message says I can't do that, because I need special permission. I am the account admin (business owner), so it seems like I should have permission to do anything, but apparently I don't. What steps can I take?2.1KViews0likes18CommentsI can’t create new folders or move existing ones from my root Dropbox
This new file system for teams is absolutely awful and workflow-destroying. We can no longer create new folders or move folders on the root of the dropbox. That such a basic feature. Whenever I want to to move folders from the root I have to copy them and then delete the old one, all via the web interface, this is far slower, with more chance of error and (I may be mistaken here) as the files are a copy rather than a move you have to download them again. Would be fascinated to here rationale behind this. I'll be looking in to alternative services when I get some downtime because this isn't workable.3.8KViews2likes31CommentsMany team members can't see on their desktop app the files I've moved, or they get an error.
Hello. I use the web version of dropbox (www.dropbox.com) to organize files. Many of my team members prefer to use the DESKTOP version of drop box and open files through File Explorer. Many of the files that I've "moved" or reorganized via the web version cannot be seen by my colleagues who use the desktop version. Can anyone shed some light into how we fix this? The error message these users get indicates the file isn't found or can't be opened.Solved323Views0likes3CommentsHow to move multiple files at once to a shared folder?
I want to share a bunch of photos with family. I created a shared folder and sent them the link to view. I can select multiple photos and videos at once... but I can't figure out how to move them all into the shared folder at the same time. Am I missing something? Am I really supposed to click photos one by one to move them??297Views0likes3CommentsMoving files out of Dropbox now defaults to the 'copy' function
Starting sometime this week, whenever I try to move a file out of my Dropbox to another location on the same drive, it will default to 'copy' and leave the original still in Dropbox. This duplication now requires that I manually delete the file from my Dropbox if I want to complete the action of relocating a file. However, if I drag a file into my Dropbox from anywhere on the same drive, it will behave normally and 'move' the file without duplication. Moving files within folders in Dropbox also retains the default 'move' function. What is causing this bizarre 'copy' behavior and how do I get rid of it? I want the default drag behavior, within the same drive, to be 'move'.Solved6KViews2likes47CommentsPrevent members from Moving any folders within team folders.
I've seen a topic like the one I'm writing now suggesting to prevent team members from moving any selected folders. I came here just to emphasis how this feature (Member roles Or Folder restrictions) is VERY important in business and I can tell in short words what happed to the business yesterday when one of the member mistakenly moved one of the HOT working projects to another destination. The project literally paralyzed for around 3 hours after noticing the MOVING action and trying to fix it and not to mention what happened to the team when suddenly they couldn't save their work(Media footage editing) the moment the files disappeared and also the whole team was setting waiting for the synchronization process to finish (first the mistaken moving and next moving back the moved folder to its original path). Wish we can have a specific restriction on selected folders and giving the permission to move to selected member by the admin. Here is a recap for my suggestion suggestion: FOLDER SETTINGS ---------- VIEWING , EDITING, MOVING ON ON OFF USERS PERMESSIONS DELETING, MOVING OFF OFF857Views2likes2CommentsDropbox moved my folders into a new folder labelled with my name. How do I change it back?
Dropbox moved my folders into a new folder labelled with my name. How do I change it back? It's screwed up my synchronization, and I've wasted the better part of a workday trying to fix it.3.7KViews4likes11CommentsHow to move Files to a Folder Outside Dropbox on Mac
I would like to move some files out of Dropbox to another folder on my Mac, outside Dropbox, in order to archive them but also to have them no longer taking up Dropbox space. After searching the help files, I have found no way to do this. Does any one know if it's possible to do what I want? Thank you.Solved4.3KViews0likes28CommentsQuestions about moving files out of Dropbox and syncing caps
Hello, I found two concerning issues with OneDrive and I'm looking for a product that doesn't have them. A user accidentally moved a folder from OneDrive to local PC storage and then purged the local PC folder. Because the folder was moved from OneDrive folder (instead of being deleted), it simply vanished from the cloud, backups, and did not appear in the recycling bin. Luckily, the user also had a laptop, so we restored the folder from there, but it gave everyone a heart attack. Does moving a folder (as opposed to deleting it) vanish it from Dropbox and the backups? Then, we put the folder where it was supposed to be and resynced it. The sync was running all day (600gb worth of data). Everything was going fine until we hit 500gb, when sync stopped and OneDrive announced that "you may be experiencing a temporary sync delay due to hight activity." Are there any caps due to high activity in Dropbox? Thank you.267Views0likes1CommentCannot move shared folder if I am not the owner
I am trying to reorganize my dropbox because I literally have thousands of folders, and I need them to be more logically nested. This is no problem with shared folders that I own, but I can't move any shared folders where I am not the owner. This is a nightmare, because it means that every folder anyone has ever shared with me remains in my top level dropbox folder and cannot be filed into the relevant subfolder within dropbox. Because I can't find any information about this issue online, I am assuming that my dropbox is not functioning correctly. Hoping someone can help me to fix this issue? Here is the error message I get when I try to move a shared folder where I am not the owner from my top level dropbox folder to a different subfolder within dropbox (that is not shared with anyone else, in case that is relevant): Couldn't move folder To move this folder, try contacting the owner of FOLDER_NAME If I click on the "more information" link, it just takes me to a generic message about team folders. (Note: These are not dropbox business team folders--they are simply shared folders. I have a regular Dropbox pro account, on Windows 11, desktop version.)2.7KViews2likes16Comments
