I've downloaded the latest Software version for Mac Os. I Install, and try to open from apps and then menu bar. Dropbox does not respond then closes. Tried a complete uninstall reinstall and same thing. Any solutions?124Views0likes12CommentsIs it no longer possible to pick my existing Dropbox folder when installing the app?
In the past I was able to install dropbox and with the advance settings I was able to use and existing dropbox directory - -- has that changed? do I have to have dropbox download thousands of files that already exist on the computer?25Views0likes2CommentsMacOS: No "Dropbox" in the "Location" settings of Finder
I have updated Dropbox on MacOS (12.6.5), and I have learned that I should know be able to see "Dropbox" in Finder on the left hand pane under 'Locations'. However there is no such entry; 'Locations' is empty. I *can* access Dropbox in the following way: In the MacOS menu bar, I click the Dropbox icon, and then click the icon which says "Open Dropbox Folder". Then a Finder window opens, showing my Dropbox files. I just wonder why I can't see them in just a normal new Finder window.Solved8.8KViews2likes40CommentsCannot run headless Dropbox in WSL linux
I am using the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). I've attempted to install a headless version of dropbox in both the Debian and Ubuntu distributions in WSL. I followed these instructions athttps://www.dropbox.com/install-linux : cd ~ && wget -O - "https://www.dropbox.com/download?plat=lnx.x86_64" | tar xzf - ~/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd Running this last command produces the following output: dropbox: load fq extension '/home/brandon/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-206.4.6506/cryptography.hazmat.bindings._openssl.abi3.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/brandon/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-206.4.6506/cryptography.hazmat.bindings._padding.abi3.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/brandon/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-206.4.6506/apex._apex.abi3.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/brandon/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-206.4.6506/psutil._psutil_linux.cpython-38-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/brandon/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-206.4.6506/psutil._psutil_posix.cpython-38-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/brandon/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-206.4.6506/google._upb._message.cpython-38-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/brandon/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-206.4.6506/tornado.speedups.cpython-38-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/brandon/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-206.4.6506/wrapt._wrappers.cpython-38-x86_64-linux-gnu.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/brandon/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-206.4.6506/PyQt5.QtCore.so' dropbox: load fq extension '/home/brandon/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-206.4.6506/PyQt5.QtCore.so' Couldn't start Dropbox. This may be a temporary error. Please restart Dropbox. Get more help at https://www.dropbox.com/c/help/permissions_error If the issue persists, please contact Dropbox support with the following info for help: /tmp/dropbox_errorfvj_1y99.txt The referenced file at the end shows the following error: ImportError: libgthread-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Apparently dropboxd is expecting some packages to come pre-installed (no mention of this in the installation instructions). After some research, I found that the following command installed the required shared object: sudo apt-get install libc6 After this, I attempted to run dropboxd once again, but this time obtained the following error: dropbox: load fq extension '/home/brandon/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-206.4.6506/PyQt5.QtDBus.so' b'!! (Qt:Fatal) This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin "xcb".\n\nAvailable platform plugins are: xcb.\n\nReinstalling the application may fix this problem.' Segmentation fault Apparently, this non-GUI version of Dropbox requires the Qt GUI framework. Interesting... I proceeded to install Qt5 with the following: sudo apt install qtbase5-dev Now when I run dropboxd, the program stalls on this step: dropbox: load fq extension '/home/brandon/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-206.4.6506/PyQt5.QtDBus.so' I don't understand why the program freezes here. Any help would be appreciated.456Views2likes2CommentsDropbox in Linux 32 bit unable to download the proprietary daemon
I have an old 32 bits computer in which I installed Linux LMDE 6 (the latest 32 bit version of Linux Mint). The OS comes with a 32 bit version of Dropbox version 2020.03.04 that can be installed through the software center or through: $ sudo apt install dropbox When running the application with: $ dropbox start I get the message: Starting Dropbox... The Dropbox daemon is not installed! Run "dropbox start -i" to install the daemon Then I run: $ dropbox start -i and a window opens with the message: "In order to use Dropbox, you must download the proprietary daemon", and I click in 'OK' But then it fails to download the proprietary daemon, giving the message: "Trouble connecting to Dropbox servers. Maybe your internet connection is down, or you need to set your http_proxy environment variable." Then I downloaded the latest Debian 32 bit package I found in https://linux.dropboxstatic.com/packages/debian/dropbox_2024.04.17_i386.deb, installed it, but the problem to download the daemon still persists. Finally, following some tips in the internet, I tried to download the daemon manually, using the command: $ wget -O - "https://www.dropbox.com/download?plat=lnx.x86" and I get an ERROR 404: Not found. I concluded from this that the 32 bit daemon is not longer available at the Dropbox repository. Is it possible to obtain a 32 bit daemon anywhere else? Are we cursed to not use Dropbox in 32 bit Linux anymore? If the 32 bit daemon is no longer available, why 32 bit Debian packages are still maintained?73Views0likes5CommentsPermissions error on desktop app as appdata points to non-existant location on Mac

I wanted to move my dropbox folder from my Macbook Air hard drive to an external SSD drive. I signed out of the app, signed back in However, the new dropbox location was created, however it is not linked therefore I do not get all of the links, and sync with dropbox. and it seems that the old link is still there. And I am unable to find out where the directory is. What I want is for dropbox to be linked to the external SSD drive Here are the screen shots: On the following image A - is the new dropbox directory on the external drive that was created. files and folders here do not have the Dropbox Links (like link address, etc) B - is the old location. it says that it is unlinked to dropbox However as you will see in the last image, this directory DOES have the dropbox links. In the new location (A) there are no dropbox links This is B, the old content in the location I want to replace. It seems that the dropbox link is still linked here, and as you can see the Dropbox Links for syncing are here.17Views0likes1Comment
