Dropbox Rewind
83 TopicsHow can I restore my account to a version with older files?
I have the basic dropbox on two computers - say Desktop and Laptop. Due to a Desktop restore from Idrive cloud backup my dropbox on Desktop has updated with old folders/files which were previously deleted or modified and a sync operation up to the max memory allowed in basic account has occured (dropbox stopped sync as memory got full) so now I have incorrect contents on the Web dropbox. I cannot use the rewind facillity as its a basic account (tells be to go buy an upgrade if I try and rewind a folder}. To get back to my dropbox before it got accidentaly updated with old stuff, my idea is to to uninstall dropbox from Desktop and delete the local dropbox folder. My Laptop was not turned on at the time so that holds the correct Dropbox contents. If I now log into my dropbox web account via a browser and delete all files and folders in the web account and then turn on the Laptop, will the dropbox on my Laptop Sync/upload to the dropbox account and effectively recreate the correct contents. on the Dropbox Web account. I can then re install dropbox on the Desktop and the dropbox will now download from the Web and be correct on the Desktop. Will this work please? I just saw and turned on the backup option... I've had the primary my pc/desktop folders UNSYNCED because it seemed redundant from all my primary files/folders I keep within dropbox already but.. The backup I noticed has a rewind feature which may be enough of a benefit, if im understanding it correctly to keep this enabled...ie if i screw something up on the fly while working...i can go in there and rewind whatever file/folder to recover the mistake? That said, is there a separate reason to keep the pc/desktop folder syncing as well? Hi - One of our employees deleted a whole folder accidentally which is where we normally move, add many files daily. When I tried to use rewind it is giving us an error that Rewind is not active and needs to contact support. How do we get it activated so we do not have to restore all the files/folder we deleted before. Thanks in advance!236Views0likes5CommentsI want to rewind a file to 09/13, but I only see a version from 06/05.
I'm trying to Rewind a folder to rewind to a version of a spreadsheet shown by Rewind (edit from 13th Sept), but it doesnt appear to happen. Leaving in place an version saved on 5th June... When I go to the file and try to access the Versions History it only shows the 5th June version. I want to revert to a version of a file from a couple of days ago, so i have signed up toDropbox Plus to get the Rewind feature, but I don't seem to be able to see any changes before the time I boughtDropbox Plus. Is that to be expected?328Views0likes5CommentsQuery to inform Rewind of times that a file was suddenly decreased in size.
I have a process that builds a time record to a file on a mounted drive. Due to concurrency issues that Dropbox does not manage I have another process that copies updates from the mounted drive to a Dropbox folder. Though the mount works 99% of the time, there are times on the road when the mount fails so that the process puts the time record to the mount point rather than to the mounted drive. Then the update process updates Dropbox with a truncated record. I want to look back over the rewind record to identify those moments where the Dropbox version of the time record file is suddenly reduced in size. These would be points where I want to recover the Dropbox previous version i.e. prior to the truncation. How can I do this? To clarify with an example : Jan 1 save.dat is 1 M Feb 1 save.dat suddenly becomes 10 K March 1 save.dat has built itself up to 750 K April 1 save.dat is 20 K I want to be able to merge all these versions. I don't expect Dropbox to perform the merge, but I want to perform downloads of each version at its maximum size.514Views0likes4CommentsCan I restore a file with Dropbox Rewind, if I upgrade my account?
My co-worker deleted lots of files and folders from our shared Dropbox. We're both on Basic. I have recovered many of them, but a crucial excel file is missing from one of the folders. If I pay for an upgrade and Rewind, might I be able to get it back? There's no sign of it anywhere. thanks! Jill756Views0likes16CommentsRewind fails to work and requires support assistance
Hi ... Please see the screen shot below of Rewind failing to work correctly. This fault can be replicated using different PC's OS's and Browsers. It would seem that the root cause for us is an Account or Folders having a lot of historic high data activity after the restore date. (e.g A User wants to restore data from the 22nd July but rewind fails because there was a lot of Data transfer activity in their account on the 8th August). In our case we have a 1 Year rewind option but we can't go back further than three weeks because of historic file changes, pluswe do not have 24/7 support. How do we fix this ? (I can supply a capture video of Rewind failing)663Views1like5Comments
