Dropbox Basic
1416 TopicsThe referral I sent to my friend has been marked as ineligible.
Hi everyone, I'm still encountering an issue with a Dropbox friend referral where I'm trying to earn the 500MB bonus storage. I sent the invitation back in 2016. The referral was marked as "ineligible," and I initially considered it might be due to shared computer access, but I can now confirm that the friend I invited did not install or log in to Dropbox on the same computer I used to send the invitation. Given this new information, I'm trying to understand why the referral might still be ineligible. Here are my updated questions: 1. Could the age of the invitation (sent in 2016) be a factor in the referral's ineligibility now? Are there expiration dates or limitations on older referral links? 2. What are the specific steps a referred friend needs to take to ensure the referral is successful and I receive the 500MB bonus under the current program? 3. If the issue isn't related to a shared computer, what are some other common reasons for referral ineligibility that I should consider? 4. Is it possible that the referral program terms or the bonus amount offered in 2016 were different and are no longer valid? 5. Should I try sending a new referral invitation to the same friend now? Would that have a better chance of being successful under the current program? Any insights into how the referral program has evolved since 2016 or common pitfalls to avoid would be greatly appreciated. As a Basic user, direct email support options seem limited, so I'm hoping the community can offer some guidance. Thanks in advance for your help!46Views0likes5CommentsIs there an automatic date change to current date when uploading?
Why this automatic change of date to current date when upload files to Dropbox -- no other cloud type storage system does this date change? I use both Safari & Windows (depending which laptop I use at time) to do these file uploads. Its a pain in butt that it changes date so I have to upload then go in and modify to date I want. -- I've read about some synching option but not relevant. I see others have raised this issue but no real ownership by DropBox to fix it seems? Has anyone found a way to turn off this auto date change function?Solved2.1KViews2likes11CommentsTried to move main Dropbox folder but now Dropbox seems confused
I run my Windows (Win10 in this case) systems in multi-boot mode. Typically three instances of Windows on each computer. This provides quick recovery capability when Windows issues arise that need plenty of time to troubleshoot. Have been using Basic Dropbox quite successfully (i.e., no problems) for a while now. However, when I tried to move the Dropbox folder it has become completely dysfunctional. I do understand that moving it when booted under one instance of Windows would not be recognized by the other instances and some correction would be in order. However, none of the instances work correctly any more. It also seems to have gotten into a state where it thinks I'm using more computers and is insisting on upgrading to a version that accommodates more computers. In my present situation upgrading is the last thing I'd want to do. Knowing that it can function properly in my environment would be an essential aspect of choosing to upgrade. Given that at present I do not need any more devices I'm not anxious to upgrade now. Is there a solution that would allow me to continue using Dropbox or should I be looking for a better solution?27Views0likes3CommentsDamaged files on the Dropbox desktop app on MacOS Sequoia
Several pdf files stored in my DropBox account are listed as having 0kb files sizes when viewing them on desktop. I am unable to open them in a browser or Acrobat. Via dropbox.com, these same files are fine - downloadable and viewable, etc. There is no issue with file size constraints - all files are well within this account's storage capacity. I have removed and re-installed the desktop app with no change to the above. This is on OSX Sequoia. Any insight into why this is occuring would be helpful. It's a basic account, so Dropbox punts on technical support.Solved26Views0likes3CommentsMy credit card was charged for a Dropbox subscription, despite being on the free Basic plan.

I have an issue with Dropbox 166.4.2920 on macOS 12.0.1 Dropbox keeps generating utterly excessive cache files, 114GB currently on a folder that has 3.3GB of actual contents. Can you help?
Help! I have been charged for dropbox plus, I was not warned in advance. But on top of that, they say I still have just basic. I tried using the chat to investigate the charge. The charge shows up when we look it up in the system, and on my credit card, but the chat system is not devised to help fix the problem. I need to talk to a real person, but they do not allow it for Basic. But now I have Plus and I still cannot talk to anyone! Please help, I need to fix this issue.Solved23Views0likes4CommentsI've suddenly run out of space after 13 yrs and lots of referral space

I am not able to sync from my computer even. I cant find any help sadly and I am not that savy with computers either. I've just spent a few hours making my way here. :-( please help.Solved74Views0likes3CommentsSystem tray window on the new version of the desktop app is locked to bottom right side of desktop
As often the case nowadays, an upgrade behaves like a downgrade. I see many of you had that problem where the latest update wouldn't accept your existing Dropbox folder and had to make a new one elsewhere. The other problem (this is Windows) is that calling up the prog it insists on locking to the right side of my desktop. Normally a program gives you options for this either in preferences or in the basic corner of the window, but of course not with Dropbox. So does anyone here know how I can get this app undocked from the edge and float where I can best use it on my screen? Even if it's a file tweak somewhere. Something. Thanks42Views0likes4Comments
