Dropbox Backup
1046 TopicsMy files disappeared from my backup on the computer
I'm totally baffled! I appear to be paying for a service I'm not receiving. I joined Dropbox over a year ago, but realised only recently that nothing was being backed-up. My son, who is far more tech savvy than I am, thought he'd got it sorted. I could find my files in Backup - but they'd disappeared from my computer. Why? It's a Back-up, not a wipe clean! So over the holiday we tried again, as none of the recent files were backed-up. This time the files and folders which I'd had to recreate were Backed-up and remained on my computer BUT all the previously backed-up files and folders had disappeared from the Back-up - and this included 10 years work in my Family History Files. Where are they? They weren't even in the deleted folder! I'm now in a worse mess than if I'd never joined. What is going on? The program is far from intuitive, and is causing me a lot of aggravation.92Views0likes11CommentsBackups do not display on website.
I cannot display my backups on the website. The URL that is not working: https://www.dropbox.com/backup/all?_tk=web_left_nav_bar See screenshot below. That is what I see at the above URL. Here's what I have tried: Three browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Edge. This fails on all three. Signed out and signed back in. Cleared cache and cookies for all *.dropbox.com Tried at different times of the day (this has not been working for about 12 hours) Note: Choosing "View backed up files" from the desktop app works fine to display the files from a backup. I just cannot list the backups and display the files on the website.1.2KViews0likes8CommentsCan I access my external drive backup from my laptop?
I've been using Dropbox to sync my desktop and laptop computers for years, but recently my storage needs have outgrown my 1 TB desktop. I purchased a couple external hard drives and shifted some folders onto them, and while Dropbox says I can backup my internal and external hard drives I have not been able to access the externals on Dropbox from my laptop. I hope that's clear. My question is - when I include my external hard drives in my Dropbox backup is it possible to access those backups remotely on my laptop?46Views0likes1CommentHow can I sync my Mac desktop automatically to Dropbox?
in the past i was able to sync my Macbook desktop to dropbox automatically so anything i creat on my mac desktop will sync to a file in dropbox without me actively draging the file to dropbox (same was for my Mac native download file). This features apeears to be still working in windows but my mac intel on Sequoia 15.2 does not seem to support it. This feature was a game changer as it was like having iCloud but for people who use multiple operating systems.63Views0likes4CommentsCan't restore data from an old external device backup
When I look at DropBox with on the web, I can see that I have two external device backups named "Shared Data" and "Ventura ...". When I look at the backups using the app, I can only see one device backup With either of the backups, I can see no way of restoring them to a new machine. I do not have the original external device. With the "Ventura ..." backup I can see the files and download them as there are only a handful of them and then can be zipped. The "Shared Data" backup is 128GB with a considerable number of files and folders. It is therefore not feasible to navigate the complete structure, create the folder structure and then transfer the files in a folder and individual zips. Help is appreciated. Hello, I read some other advice about this, and this is how far I got before I got stuck. Opened the Drobox app on my Taskbar. Clicked on my Avatar and then picked Preferences. Went down to Sync. Clicked on Dropbox Folder Location, changed it to my D Drive. Started moving, then stopped and said I had to disable PC Backup. Opened up the app on the Taskbar again and paused syncing indefinitely. Went through all the steps again, but got the same message. Any suggestions? Renate37Views0likes1CommentHow to view Backup folder on DropBox app?
Greetings community! Previously, I used to be able to see my Mac represented on my Dropbox as a folder (I had enabled the backup option). This was super convenient because I could easily access my files on-the-go using my Dropbox iPhone app. However, due to a computer issue, I needed to wipe my MacBook Pro clean and reinstall everything (including Dropbox). I enabled backup for my MacBook. However, now, it doesn't show me the MacBook folder like it used to. So I can't access my files on the go. It shows me that I have backed up my files and I am able to see them through a web browser. However, the folder representing my MacBook (backup) has stopped showing on Dropbox. Is this due to some update in how backups work now for Dropbox on Mac? How do I get the backup folder to start showing up on Dropbox again. Thanks!6.5KViews1like24CommentsView dropbox backups on app
As described in this thread, the new version of dropbox backup is great but has a major downside: files stored via backups can no longer be accessed within the dropbox app! Quoting @mbriney from the above-linked thread because I can't say it any better: I understand the principle of having the major "backups" be in a different segment of dropbox.. but it shouldn't be that hard to access all the files. Maybe inside the regular current Dropbox app, feature a button that allows up to actually open the files that are in this "backups" section? OR maybe create another "Dropbox Backups" app that will allow us to remotely view these backup files without having to go thru the browser?12KViews24likes24Comments
