I right clicked on my dropbox file and clicked make online only..now what? The dropbox file/folder in my laptop has over 400 GB. I made that file Make available Online Only but it still shows 400GB of my laptop space used. What do I do? Do I delete the files that were in my laptop? Please help, Dante6Views0likes2CommentsFinding all offline folders
hi I did a search although couldn't find this questions being asked. Sorry If I missed it! I'm travelling and want to try and make some free space on my Macbook. Is there a way I can find all the files taking up space from Dropbox, so I can set them to make available online only? I have cleared some space already, although some of the folders have folders nested within them so could take a fair amount of time to trawl through manually. Thanks for reading!Solved1.4KViews0likes4CommentsDropbox downloads all files despite online-only settings
We use Dropbox in our company and despite default settings being set to online only, I've noticed that Dropbox will sill download all files as offline. This has happened to a few users lately. The steps that I have taken is to sign out of Dropbox, unlink the account, delete the files on the hard drive, restart the computer and re-sign in. I have double verified that the settings say online only but despite this after a few days it will download all files offline again. There is something wrong with Dropbox and I'm not sure if it's a windows update or what. All we use is Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and Blue Beam PDF. The antivirus we use is Microsoft's windows defender. Any ideas what is causing this would be greatly appreciated.16Views0likes1CommentOnline-only files are re-downloading automatically
Dropbox version 218.4.4348 My files are marked as online-only, but download back to my hard drive space after opening. I want this to stop. It's bad enough that 6 months has passed and they still don't support CR3 files so all of my gallery previews are completely blown out, but now files are just redownloading themselves and eating the space I need. Is there a setting to disable this?Solved278Views0likes4CommentsMac Finder continues to show large size of Dropbox Folder despite everything being online-only
Hi, everyone. Thanks in advance for your help, wisdom, and support. I have a problem several others have experienced, but none of the solutions I found here seem to be working. Simply put, I have around 300 GB in my Dropbox folder and have everything set to be online only (or so I assume?) Mac finder is still showing this 300 GB as being used, and it is affecting other uses that require a lot of space (video editing, audio sample packages, etc.) I do need that space back. "Space Lens" in CleanMyMac shows the proper amount of space used ( a bit under 500 GB of my 1TB built-in drive on my MacBook Pro M1. Here are the specs: Macbook Pro M1; 16GB RAM; 1Tb drive OS: Sonoma 14.5 Dropbox Desktop Version: 204.4.5420 I have searched the Dropbox folder for the ".dropbox.cache" file, but it does not exist. Here is a screenshot of the only files that appear after invoking "shift-command-.": Here is a screenshot (blurred for privacy concerns) of what the folder's directory looks like. Unless I'm mistaken, shouldn't all of these files be online only?: The Dropbox directory resides in the "Cloudstorage" in the Library, which is precisely where I believe it should be. Any help or insight the community can offer would be tremendously appreciated. Many thanks in advance! JS2KViews0likes26CommentsStop asking me to upgrade! I've removed content from my local Dropbox folder.
I keep getting messages about storage I have removed files from the dropbox folder on my local machine. Well < 2GB Yet when I go online I can see on lt the same files, but and told I am using 9.4GB. Are you just trying to get me back on a paid subscription? Why are changes made on my local machine not reflecting online. I introcued many user to Dropbox and was rewarded for thia many years ago, did you also just remove my "earned space" reward?21Views0likes1CommentWhy do the files that I upload use up hard drive space and not Dropbox storage only?
Hello, I purchased the dropbox plus for the 2TB. I am uploading photos and vids to dropbox desktop app on my file explorer, however, I got a message saying my computer storage was running low on space (not the dropbox storage). Will that stop affecting my computer storage after it syncs? How do I make it so it only affects my dropbox storage and not my computer storage (since the point of me getting dropbox was to upload to a different storage). Thank You!29Views0likes1CommentMy macOS system data is now 890GB after uninstalling Dropbox from my computer.
iMac 5K 27", 2020. macOS Sequoia 15.3. Was using Dropbox for File Providers, latest build I uninstalled Dropbox from this device yesterday. Deleted the dropbox folder The "system data" section of my macOS Settings panel for Storage is now in the 890 GB neighborhood. It's never this high. I've run a few other tools to get a feel for extraneous libraries, apps, caches, etc. but I can find no trace of what would be causing System Data to be almost half of the 2 TB capacity of the drive. It wasn't this high before I removed Dropbox, either. So I'm wondering if maybe I didn't correctly delete the files that were saved locally (few were online-only). 800GB is somewhere in the ballpark of how much Dropbox content I had stored locally. Is there a trick to getting rid of the File Provider version of Dropbox and all local copies of the files? It was significantly easier before the File Provider restrictions.57Views0likes3CommentsDropbox on Linux: Selecting alternate Drive for Location
Long time user of OneDrive on Windows but moving to Linux Mint, and with no support for OneDrive on Linux, I have once again taken up a subscription to the Dropbox service. Glad they are reading the market's distrust of Windows 11! So installed Dropbox on Windows and that's working fine as always, but moving to Linux Mint with dual booting for now. On Windows I have selected where I wanted the local storage folder to reside on a drive other than the System C: drive, but this seems to be missing from Linux. I installed the Flatpak version 204.4.5420 and at the suggestion of another help site also installed Flatseal and gave Dropbox access to all options available in the Filesystem section, including specifically "/media". Yet I seem only to be able to select a folder under /home/username. I have access to all the drives on the computer (including a Windows drive, the Data drive where Dropbox data is, etc) but I can't make Dropbox on Linux see any drive. What I would like to be able to do is have one drive that has the Dropbox folder that both Windows and Linux access. This would save on hard disk space, and the few days it's going to take to sync the files to the Linux folder. Even if Windows wasn't a consideration, I'd still prefer to have my Dropbox data on a separate Data drive like I have always had, more for disk space management and backup processes than anything. Anyone had any success in choosing an alternate folder location on Linux?1.8KViews0likes2Comments
