Hello everyone,

I tried to login my dropbox account but everything is gone.

I was working on a project with a team couple of months ago and they made me switch my personal account to their team account.

Now back to yesterday, when I tried to login then my email address and everything was reseted.

Anyone had this issue? I had absolutely zero warning. Are all my files gone?

Thanks

Hey @NicoDF, let's jump right into this!

You'd need to contact the Team's admin, in order to check if they removed you from the team. It sounds like this might be the case here.

The second thing you need to identify is whether the admin converted your account to an individual one, and if they allowed you to keep your files. However it sounds like they didn't.

It might sound trivial, but are you certain that you're accessing the correct Dropbox account on your end?

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

Hi Megan,

thank you for your quick response. I'm not sure exactly what the admin did with my account.

I contacted the team but the admin is on vacation at the moment so I can't find this out right now.

I used my main email address. So no doubt about the dropbox account.

I never had issues before. I was a bit sceptical about security issues when I got switched to team account as I couldn't find a way to remove myself after that.

I tried to login yesterday and dropbox didn't even recognize my email and created a new account.

Any idea if I'll be able to get back my files?

On my computer I still can see the dropbox structure with all personal my files and team folder.

I just can't access any of it as it was all stored online.

On the web version it is just back to an empty 2Gb basic account.

😞

Hey @NicoDF, thanks for the speedy reply!

That depends on what steps your admin took when removing you from the team; if they transferred your content to a different member, and how many days have passed since then.

You can see more about this here

Thank you! I'll see with them. But if the admin deleted my account.

Is there any way you could help me find my files as the structure is still on my computer?

I mean since I have a trace of the files it is not possible to recover them this way?

That wouldn't be possible. If the team admin removed you from the team and didn't transfer the files, there's no way to recover them.

The only possibility would be if you were removed from the team less than seven days ago, in which case the team admin could restore your account then convert it. However, since you were able to create a new account with the same email address, that time has likely already lapsed.

So that means basically, without a warning, my files are potentially gone?

The warning came when you first joined the Business team, when Dropbox gave you the option to move your personal files into a new account.

When you joined the team, you basically transferred ownership of your account to the team admin. If they later decide to remove you from the team and they don't convert the account back to an individual account, the account is deleted.
