Hi,

I'm currently on my ex's family plan. I want to leave and start my own plan, but when I've tried to change plan, DropBox says I don't have permission to do this, perhaps because I'm not the account holder. How can I switch from his plan to my own?

Thanks,

Johanna

Thanks for posting on our forum today, @Johanna76!

Even in this case, you should still be able to leave the Family plan you’re part of. Did you follow these steps to do so?

If yes, and you’re still getting an error, feel free to send me a full screenshot of it.

Ping me when you have more updates.

Thank you Nancy for this. I think I probably could leave that way, but my concern is then not having an account for a while - I had wanted to change plan, from the family plan to my own, but that's where I'm having troubles, as it's saying I don't have permission to do this. If I do leave the family plan, will I then be given the option to start my own without losing any of my files? Thank you.

Hey Johanna! If you leave the Family plan, your Dropbox account will be converted to a free Basic one and you’ll retain all of your files and folders in your individual account, plus any content that was shared with you previously. The only thing that’ll happen is that you’ll lose access to the Family Room folder.

You can also re-upgrade your Dropbox account after that point, if you wish to.

Did you follow the steps I linked above and you still see this error message?
