Sunsetting Collections
Hi Everybody,
The beta for Collections will close on July 11. If you were included in the beta, your content within Collections is still accessible in its original folder or under “Collection uploads” in your personal folder. Any shared links will continue to be accessible for an additional four weeks and shut off on July 11.
We thank you for participating in the Collections beta. Your support and feedback have helped us fix issues and improve Dropbox products for all our users.
Regards,
Ben

How do i know if i am part of the sunsetting collection? or collection bata?

I shall be very sorry to see the "Collections" option close on July 11. Is any consideration being given to extending/reinstating the facility, perhaps as an additional paid option?
Best Wishes,
Ken Syme

Excellent comment as I am playing with the thought of giving up my flickr account, as I can manouver better within dropbox and the replay options are similar.

This is a nightmare, I can't have Dropbox in my favourites bar on my Mac now?

Hi Everybody,
Thanks for your input here. I will clarify for users who are not part of the Collections beta.
Collections is a beta that allows users to compile boards of documents, files, photos, etc. Laetitia Keyrouz if you are part of the beta, you would see it on the navigation bar on the left hand side of your Dropbox when you log in, as in the image below.
Marisa D.1 This will not affect the ability to place Dropbox in your favorites bar.
kenmagyar Making the decision to sunset collections was a difficult one. We had to take quite a few internal and external factors into consideration. There are no current plans to reinstate collections.

Ben

Ben I was advised clearly by Dropbox not to move the folder from the Cloud Storage folder to the Favourites Bar (Apple Mac), can you confirm I CAN do this please? Does it move it, or duplicate it? Does it update both folders if it's duplicated?

How do I get my Starred folder back in the side menu where Collections is? Since that change I can't get that option back in my side menu that is much more convenient then going to Home everytime.

Kandg,
After I realized starred was gone today, as a shot in the dark, I browsed to https://www.dropbox.com/starred and low and behold, my starred documents are there!
Thought you might like to know!

Thank you! Yes, I did find them but I really miss the convenience! Don't understand why they removed it or don't give you the option to customize your navigation menu as I'm sure not everyone needs the same items on there.
Have a great day!

This is very sad to hear.
First, you rolled out Showcase a few years back. That was the perfect platform to showcase your work - and even break it down into sections. As well as the ability to add a header image and title. But then boom - that's gone. And back to very generic - yet functional folders for delivery/presentation.
Then you bring on Collections - a bit more limited, but at least it's a step up in presentation to clients of work - and now that's going away.
Dropbox - I use your services daily - but at times, I do not understand your methodology. You create these brand profile pieces of cool companies using/sharing/showcasing your services - but it seems you only care about the basic account with minimal services. And then hope that we'll pay the add-on for signatures, etc.
I hope your team - which has done some amazing work over the years - understands that Apple Notes can handle that for free. And your Replay add-on is amazing - I've used it to showcase video work to clients. (it's buggy but still in beta, so that's forgivable) I'm sure this doesn't come at a surprise that it's a complete rip-off of Frame.IO - which we get free use/access to with our Adobe Creative Cloud subscriptions. And now, with them adding support for photo gallery presentation/delivery - It's pulling me there - when I'd love for a true presentation option that doesn't like a folder from 2010.
And lastly - the logic of full these delivery options is unfortunate - but since I'm here - why not...I also wish that you would allow for us to purchase more storage. It makes NO sense that you cap out a Professional plan at 4TB. I would gladly play 2-3x what I'm paying for 10TB of storage. I know that's a separate issue, but that one baffles me.
Ok, rant over.
Jeff.

Ben,
Like others on this thread, I am disappointed to see features like Collections go. It seems that Dropbox invests time and enegery into many enhancements and to get users to use them in place of other functionality suche as "Starred". I actually didn't have a need for Collections, until Starred disappeared. Then when I actually needed to find one of my Starred documents which I starred so that I could easily find them (isn't that the purpose???) I couldn't find them.
I do think that Collections would have been an awesome way of categorizing documents in a way that makes sense without using links to documents in folders, though I never had a chance to really use it until it's about to disappear.
My recent engagements with technology vendors, especially with Dropbox lately, have been far from satisfactory. I suppose that's the future and I welcome further discussion.
