I see this has been suggested in the past - it is time.

Photos need to be displayed in grid or large grid view.

The is a must have IMHO.

Or just the option to send a link for a folder to be displayed as a grid (like the =lst flag)

I agree.  We have to be able to load a folder of photos in grid view or large grid view.  Even if that means we have to manually add something to the end of the link.  This is a must have.

The shared links are often opened in a list view. Which is really bad for portfolio items where you have to show visuals rather than text.
The option is already there to choose the Grid View but there is no option/settings to make a folder or all folders default display as a Grid View.

Yes, being able to set default view modes for folders with certain types of content, and/or user specified, would be great.

(Probably not as doable, but maybe additionally, for folders being backed up from the user's computer, it can find a way to refer to that folder's currently set view mode in Windows Explorer? [And for modes without a direct equivalent, it can be told to use the next functionally closest option.])

Hi!  I'm a product manager on the search team at Dropbox.  This is a great idea and something we want to explore more deeply!  We just launched a "smart view" that send you to grid view when the majority of search results have thumbnails.

Next steps are to experiment with making it easier to switch into/out of this experience with a user-facing toggle and also extending to browse pages.  Stay tuned!

When I log on to Dropbox I always have to change the view to grid. It would be nice to have a property somewhere that could set it to whatever you wanted to when you logged on. I always have to change it to grid because it defaults to list always.

I would like to be able to change the default view for my account. Generally,  I prefer list view. When sending links to others, it would be great to have the option to customize shared links to a specific view. Grid view is great if the thumbnail is how you choose the file you want. List view is better if you want to see more of the file name, file size, or sort by either of these. Sometimes I'm looking for the most recent file. Other times I'm looking for the largest file.

In general, being able to set a default folder view for your web based DB access would be nice. I personally like "small list" view for most everything. I know I can add "dl=0&lst=" to the end of my URLs, but that still seems to default to the "large list" view.  Customizability in this area would be appreciated.

I think a good solution, is being able to set a default for the viewers account, and also being able to define a specific view by the sender if they want. If the view is overridden by the sender, maybe there is a thin banner at the top of the page saying "folder view defined by sender." Then the recipient/viewer can adjust that folder to their liking manually.  You could even have a account preference setting to "always show" in a preferred format, if you wanted to override everything...

I see this sender setting being helpful for photographers, or simply family wanting to share images in their desire display format. And for me, when viewing documents and basic files, I can then have DB default to the "small list view" I prefer. As it stands, every time I start a web based DB session, I have to adjust the view, and it's frustrating.
