Allow a personal account to have more than 3 TB

Allow a personal account to have more than 3 TB

Hello,

I'm a graphic designer with over 15 years of workload. This obviously equates to extreme files sizes. I was disappointed to learn Dropbox don't offer a package for single users over 3TB. I work solely and require more cloud space and don't want to have to upgrade to a 'per user' plan as this isn't cost effective. This option has to become available soon.

@Sam DBX how long does the 'investigation' process usually take at Dropbox? Thanks.

@Sam DBX how long does the 'investigation' process usually take at Dropbox? Thanks. (question is from @shinbeth )

@Sam DBX ... Did you know that two years at an IT level is equivalent to a geological era of prehistory? why does Dropbox carelessly and slolwly avoid the meteorite that will destroy it... without trying to evolve and update itself? A science&economics true mystery ...

I guess what bugs me the most here are two things  (copied below) that come from Dropbox:

1). 16 months ago they were reviewing the idea. Ok, review away. But I have worked for many big companies, it does not take 16 months to say we are or are not willing to do this. I am sure that management know already and that this is not happening. But the fear of people just leaving might be a reason to simply drag this out. But then again, look how long it took to change a style page on the web, which, BTW, is not in dark mode anymore AGAIN! SIGH

And some time later, status changed to investigating. Seriously? Again, how long does it take for Dropbox to do some engineering calculations to know if this is a money maker or not. As an engineer, the hardware side can't be that complicated, it's data storage and will you make money on it or not? (Don't kid yourself, that's the only reason Dropbox will do it!) .  The software side should be even easier, since the software is done already, it works now. Or is it? Did the original designs not consider storage areas larger than a certain size so it cannot be easily upgraded?  Again, as someone who has run large software teams, that investigation should not take more than a few weeks to a month at most.

So Dropbox, I do not care anymore. If you do this, I know your price will be too expensive. And my trust in Dropbox has gone to nearly zero. I just used a competitor's product, and while not quite as slick as Dropbox, I was able to pull back an older version of a  file I deleted in error in just a minute or two.  That works .

So I will start moving things out of Dropbox to other offsite storage, and just manage the small amount of storage your miserly squeeze out for the shrinking fewer times I need to collaborate with DB. Heck, half of that that need is now ion my own AWS server instance,  and the cost is not so prohibitive and frankly, working just fine.

You can remove my name from this request. I'll live with what I have, and when I find this other service is fully handling my needs well, drop out completely.  Thanks for what you HAD as a great product. I only wish you could have grown with the times.

My status changed to: Don't Care Any More.

just chiming in to say that as a person who works with large audio files I would gladly pay the 20$/mo for business a account but I'm not dropping $720 a year on the current business plan. this plus dealing with the hassle of a disastrous cascade of synch errors on my account as a result of the last upgrade that's left me now closing in 3TB of data half of which are near - but not exact - duplicates has me looking into other options, after staying with DB since like 2006. 😞

So DropBox's effective price for a 66% increase from 3TB to 5TB of space is a 170% price increase? Seriously bad service offering. Please offer increased storage space for individual users.

It's really sad that they have forgotten where they started and how it was small business and personal users that gave them the chance to get to where they are now!!!

I remember when they offered Unlimited plans at a fair price and you could add-on space to smaller plans any time.

Now they just try to screw the smaller users (Not big business that can afford their own data centers).

It's really dumb that I would have to pay for 3 USERS when it is only myself and my small business!

It would be much smarter if we could add-on to what we have now.  Heck, I'm already paying more than what 1 user of the business plan does.

Now I have to find another solution, meaning I'll probably have to switch providers (Looking into https://mega.io right now.... They offer a 16tb plan for only $32.58 a month and adding on space is super easy!!!  You can do up to 10PB, Thats 10,000TB).

Dropbox, You need to come back you reality cause I don't want to leave..... I have been with you guys for over 10 years now!
