Delete, edit, and organize
Solve issues with deleting, editing, and organizing files and folders in your Dropbox account with support from the Dropbox Community.
I have a folder with about 1000 files. When I add a bunch of files to it, I need to rename each one to a specific rename.
Before the recent upgrade, after renaming a file, it would go to the renamed file or stay in the same folder location from where the file was before it was renamed.
Nos after each rename, the position pops to the top of the folder alphabetically. This causes so much extra scrolling and takes a lot of extra time.
Id say this is more like a bug report than a how to question. I already contacted support and they know nothing and then directed me here — which is also useless I suspect because the number of users makes it look like a needle in a haystack.
Hi there, @Thissal, and thanks for reaching out to us.
We appreciate your feedback on this, but can you gives us a bit more info on where you see this behavior?
Is it on our website, your local Dropbox folder or the mobile app?
Any additional info would be helpful.
Thanks!

It is in the mobile app. It’s a local and cloud folder — but it’s true for all of my folders in the Dropbox folder.
@Thissal, hope it’s OK to jump in here.
Can you give a specific example of a file you renamed on your mobile app? You can also attach a couple of screenshots of what you see before and after to have a visual.

For example, when I add a hundred files from a scanner, to ant folder, these added files are all named PNGImage 1,2,3.pdf by Dropbox. So I need to change each file to a patient name.
before the software upgrade, I would rename pngimage 1 to a patient name. Then it would move to pngimage 2, which I would rename as well, then it would move my location to pngimage 3. It was convenient.
Now, instead of moving to the next png image file it pops me to the first file in the folder, alphabetically. Then I have to scroll down through about 1000 files to find the next pngimage file to rename. It takes 2 to 3 times longer to rename a bunch of files after the latest upgrade.
can you please let me know what part of this is understandable?
Thanks for the detailed reply! The issue is clearer now.
What’s the OS version that you’re using at the moment?

Thanks, I suspected it was a change that was not well considered.
another problem is when doing a search on a name in some folder, I need to back out of that folder and back in before doing the search on the next name.
