Re: Automation for renaming files doesn't work

Automation for renaming files doesn't work

I set up Dropbox automation to "When files are added to [main folder], Then rename them to [YYYY-MM-DD - example filename.pdf]".  Then, I tried dragging multiple files from my computer into the folder, using Chrome and then trying it with Edge.  In both cases, the files just kept their original names.  I cleared by browser cache in Chrome, and then tried it in Edge. Nothing has worked.  I have seen no difference since adding automation.

I un-checked the box next to "Replace with existing dates detected in filenames" because I just want it to use the date of upload.

Hey @nicDUS - sorry to hear about this.

Can you please navigate to the folder and try the upload button from inside the folder directly and let me know if you get the same results?

If you do, can you try creating a new automated folder and let me know if the issue persists there as well?

Thanks!

I forgot to put that in my first post. I did try dragging and dropping as well as using the upload button. And I tried 3 new folders with the same exact automation settings. None worked.

Hi @nicDUS, can you try to remove the automation momentarily, then re-enable it, please?

I tried this and it has had no effect. I removed automation from the 3 folders, and then added it back with the same settings. But there's no difference. It does not change the file names.

Hi @nicDUS, could you attach a screenshot showing the automation itself, and the folder on which the automation is applied to on the Dropbox site?

The automation is working now.  I have no idea what fixed it.
