Using Dropbox for Backup Storage?

I am looking for a service to simply backup my computer & external hard drive but also store files that I don't have on my computer or hard drives. Can Dropbox provide this type of service? I'm being told Dropbox cannot perform this way.

    Dropbox itself doesnt perform that way, that is correct. 

     

    Dropbox isn't the tool you are looking for if you want your main drive (i.e. C:\) backing up to restore and use as a functional machine. But, it does have backup functionality of the data structures and external drives.
