Hi, I have a silly problem.
If I change a small file on my Linux machine, the dropbox-icon will get blue and will show "Syncing" for multiple days.
After a really long time it is going grey again.
What makes me wondering is, that if I go into nemo and look for the sync-status-icons, really everything is green.
And, also the changes can be seen on other devices. (so the file was synced)
I already checked, that I am not syncing any hard/soft-links and that I do not have any strange characters in the filenames. I rebooted several time and already unlinked/linked the whole Notebook.
CPU < 5%
Nothing helps.
I also started a script to check the status of all files (dropbox filestatus xxx) recursively and also there I could not see any not-synced files.
Does someone have an idea, what is going wrong here?
Makes it sense to try a Beta version?
Greetings
Juergen

Thanks for posting this on our Community, @JM2024!
From what you mention, it looks like your Dropbox app is already running the beta app version.
However, can you send me a couple of screenshots of what you see exactly on your end?
That'll help me guide you from there.

Hi Nancy,
please not at the bottom the blue-sync icon, which stays very long and please notice, that nemo shows all green.
Would it make sense to go back to the release-train? If yes, what is the best way?
Thanks for the screenshot, @JM2024! When saying that you’ve rebooted (in your first post), are you talking about the Dropbox app or your device, in general?
I’d also like you to right click on your local Dropbox folder directly, go to its Properties and send me one more screenshot of what you see there. The performance of the Dropbox app may decline after syncing 300k files, so I’d like to make sure that’s not the case here.

I rebooted the whole PC and sometimes the Dropbox app itself.
Sometimes this helps, but most often it is showing still "syncing" after the restart.
Good had a good idea regarding the number of files:
If I use a "find . -type f | wc -l" I see: 324247 files
I am using Dropbox since beginning and had never this kind of problems. And I am sure, that I had 400.000 files working some weeks ago.
You are selling 15T.....So 300.000 files shouldn´t be a challenge, right?
I forgot: I am also ignoring in dropbox a lot of this files (e.g .git )
Some more information for you:
I have the same problem on another Notebook, running the same Linux-Mint version. This one has "only" 57462 items in the Dropbox-folder.
Hi @JM2024,
Execute following in terminal:
cat /proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_watches
What result does come back? Is it bigger of total number of files and folders in your Dropbox folder? If not, you have to increase it at least to the number of Dropbox folder entries number (again files and folders together). Dropbox uses this old technique, unfortunately, that make issues.
cat /proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_watches
500000
So greater than the entries under the dropbox-folder
