How does Dropbox vault work internally?

How does Dropbox vault work internally?

I just started using Dropbox vault on Windows and I found that every time I open the vault, it seems that Dropbox downloads all files in the vault from the server to my computer. When I close the vault, it uploads all files to the Dropbox server. Is this true? If so, should I put large files in the vault? It could use a lot of bandwidth if so.

I also want to know how the vault protects my files. Are my vault files encrypted on Dropbox server, or on the wire?  When does the decrypt happen?

Thanks.

Hey @j7GUvseRjB, thanks for using Dropbox!

I just wanted to mention that is exactly how Vault works and the size of the files you'll be storing there is up to you.

When it comes to your second concern, note that Vault PIN protection offers an additional layer of security for your most sensitive files.

While your Vault is locked, the content of files saved in Vault is not accessible. PIN-protection times out after ten attempts, and gets to prevent hackers or thieves from gaining access to your sensitive information.

Vault also autolocks after 20 minutes on web, and 3 minutes on mobile, ensuring your content stays protected if you step away from your device.

Also, note that Vault’s security measures are in addition to the security measures Dropbox takes with all of your files and folders, including encryption in transit and at rest.
