Thanks for posting on our Community, Mcc49!
Can you please clarify what type of files are the ones you’ve saved in your iTunes Library? What's their file extension?
Also, do you have the Dropbox desktop app installed on your new laptop? If yes, you can try to copy these files from your external hard drive to your local Dropbox folder and wait till they sync to your Dropbox web account and the rest of your devices.
Otherwise, you’ll need to go to www.dropbox.com and upload them from there instead (with these steps).
Let me know if you face any issues along the way.

I haven’t a clue about the files on external hard drive. I downloaded my CD collection many years ago onto I tunes on a now defunct laptop but copied them to iPod an external hard drive.

Hi Mcc49, you'll need to connect the iTunes library on your external drive to your iTunes app on your machine, in order for the music to sync.
This wouldn't be possible with Dropbox, due to copyright protection within iTunes, so you'll need to look up this info on the Apple site directly.

Thanks. It looks too complicated for me. I’ll have to wait until my granddaughter has finished her exams.
