Re: Dropbox update after Mac update?

Dropbox not syncing after Mac update?

I updated my Mac this morning. Now, when I go to my Dropbox file in Finder, it is still there, but many of the new folders I created and stored certain files are not longer there. The files are, but the folders into which I stored them are not there anymore. Having said that, all the correct folder appropriations are in my online Dropbox account. Do I need to do something to sync the online dropbox with my Mac app dropbox? If so, how? Thank you.

Could you check to see if you have any folders removed due to selective sync in the Dropbox desktop application?

I have no idea how to do that. For consistency of communication with a rather inept software user, is the desktop application the Dropbox on my Mac?

Yes, it the app that appears when you click the icon you showed in your last image. You can access the preferences from there and then see the selective sync settings.

I clicked the Dropbox app in my Mac "Finder". Right click brings up a menu, as seen in the attached screenshot. Left click just opens up the Dropbox menu of my folders and files. Screenshot 2023-11-16 at 2.56.40 PM.png

Hey @oilerblue, Jay has linked some articles in his previous replies, to help you find the things he's referring to, but basically, you'll need to click on the Dropbox icon in your menu bar, at the top of your screen, then on your initials/profile pic, then on Preferences and then on the Sync tab.

Under 'Select folders to sync to this Mac', click 'Select folders'.

This should show you a list of all your Dropbox folders; the checked ones are the ones that should appear within the Dropbox folder and the unchecked ones will not.

Do you see that the folders you're looking for are checked or unchecked?

Thank you, Hannah. Very helpful. I followed your steps and it seems all my folders are checked off, which is what I want. Perhaps the syncing takes a lot longer than I had thought.

Just to check, has your issue been resolved, or are the folders still appearing as empty on your computer?

Thanks for following up and for all your suggestions. I am just going through each folder and accounting for all the files. It seems that there are duplicate files in different folders. I just have to sift through them and clean it up. Thanks, again, to you and to those on this thread.
