Ubuntu 24.04 often shows deprecated warnings on the command line

Ubuntu 24.04 often shows deprecated warnings on the command line

I have used Dropbox for a good 6 years now on various Ubuntu Linux boxes, but I'm now having hiccups with Dropbox on Ubuntu 24.04.1 compared to a 20.04.6 setup on a different pc.

The 20.04 pc shows the following:
klojum@pc1:~$ dropbox status
Up to date
klojum@pc1:~$ dropbox version
Dropbox daemon version: 211.4.6008
Dropbox command-line interface version: 2020.03.04

The 24.04 pc shows the following:
klojum@pc2:~$ dropbox status
/usr/bin/dropbox:613: DeprecationWarning: isSet() is deprecated, use is_set() instead
if self.stop_event.isSet(): break
Up to date
klojum@pc2:~$ dropbox version
Dropbox daemon version: 211.4.6008
Dropbox command-line interface version: 2019.02.14

So... Why is the freshly set up Ubuntu 24.04 pc using an older command-line interface version? I installed Dropbox identically from the installer file off the  Dropbox website. Is this older version also responsible for the various Deprecation Warnings I'm getting on my screen? And BTW, 2019..?! Really? That's almost 6 years ago.

I'm also getting "conflicted versions" of files again, which I haven't had for years.
Where can I find the 'latest' version of Dropbox for Ubuntu Linux 24.04?

Any insight on this is certainly welcome.

Hi @Klojum, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

If you're not on a Dropbox Basic plan with more than 3 devices connected, could you try an advanced reinstall of the app using the steps in this link?

Keep me updated with any progress!

 Hi Jay,

Perhaps I should have mentioned that I am on the Basic Plan (connecting to max 3 devices), and I simply used the "dropbox_2024.04.17_amd64.deb" file linked on the Dropbox website. I hope this situation doesn't end Dropbox support for me.

Ubuntu 24.04 was released a week after your last Linux installation file, and as a former ISTQB tester I know that software regression hiccups are not uncommon. Seeing the date of the install file as well as those of the CLI versions I do get the nagging feeling that Linux OS development isn't too high on the Dropbox Team to-do list.

So, as a Basic Dropbox user on Ubuntu Linux 24.04.1, what are my options?

Since you're already using 3 devices, and it sounds like your current device is already connected to your account, you should be able to perform the advanced reinstallation steps, since you won't go over the device limit.
