Hello,

Everytime I try to open the desktop app to access my preferences the icon just opens Finder. I have read other message board posts about this issue and restarting the computer did not resolve the problem. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks for posting on our forum today, @mgchappe! Let’s have a look.

Are you clicking on the small Dropbox icon in your menu bar to access your app preferences (the one that’s close to your clock settings)?

If yes, please send me a couple of screenshots showing what you see on your end and I’ll further check this.

Keep me posted.

 Hi Nancy,

When I click on the dropbox app it does not open so that I can select preferences. It automatically opens a finder window titled dropbox. See attached screenshots. I also have an "old" instance of dropbox on my machine that is affiliated with a work email (it was renamed this when I downloaded the new dropbox), whereas my personal dropbox is what I just installed. Screenshot 2024-04-17 at 4.19.49 PM.pngScreenshot 2024-04-17 at 4.20.33 PM.png

Thanks for the screenshots! From the first image, it looks like you’re looking at the Dropbox app that’s installed on your computer, whereas on the second screenshot there’s the local Dropbox folder that contains your Dropbox files.

Can you also send me one more screenshot of the icons you see in your menu bar, close to your clock settings? I’d like to check the syncing status of the Dropbox icon that should be showing there.

Hi Nancy,

When I click on the dropbox app, it is the finder folders that are depicted that open rather than the app. Here is the screenshot of the menu bar. Screenshot 2024-05-03 at 10.10.49 AM.png

Thanks for that! Appreciate it.

I don’t see the small Dropbox icon in your menu bar indeed, so we’ll need to make sure the Dropbox app is running properly first.

Can you open your Finder once again, go to your Applications folder, and double click on the Dropbox app there? Do you see a small Dropbox icon in your menu bar after that to access your app preferences?

I do not. When I click on the dropbox icon in my application folder it just opens a finder window. No dropbox icon opes in my menu bar.

Hi @mgchappe, could you try quitting some of the other apps from the menu bar in order to view the Dropbox icon in the menu bar?
