Dropbox Passwords going away?

I recently had an issue with Dropbox Passwords, and support informed me that it's been deprecated in Windows and Mac. I don't know what they mean. They were very vague. I use the latest browser extensions in Chrome, and I received an update to the Dropbox Passwords extension just a few days ago. By all appearances, it seems to be up to date.

I can't find anything on the Dropbox website saying that the service is discontinuing. Does anyone know what is going on? I lost a lot of login credentials recently, and I'm really frustrated with Dropbox support for not being helpful or informative.

Hey dewie, I’m sorry to hear about your experience.

Do you mind sharing any ticket numbers you may have from your convo with our support, so that I can also have a look?

Besides that, can you send me more details on the issue you mention with your lost login credentials? Did something happen, like an update etc, right before the issue occurred?

    Keep me posted!

      Hi Nancy,

My ticket number is 21048892. The agent has not provided a satisfactory answer about what the problem is and just says that desktop apps have been deprecated. I'm not sure if they're referring to the old desktop apps that were deprecated or the browser extension, which appears to be current. I'm using the Chrome, Safari and Firefox browser extensions on both Mac and PC, not the old desktop app.

What's troubling is there's nothing on the Dropbox website to corroborate the agent's claims. Most importantly, I'm not getting a solution. Should I stop using Dropbox Passwords altogether? The agent seems to be suggesting that but isn't saying it directly. This is very frustrating.

      Thanks for your help.

        Thanks for the ticket number!

I believe that what our agent meant was that the Dropbox Passwords app for desktop has been deprecated, which is true indeed (you can still access Dropbox Passwords via the web browser extension). You can also check more details about this here.

Regarding your ticket, I’ve left an internal message to our team, so that they can get back to you as soon as possible with more updates.

If you need something else in the meantime, I'm here for you.
