Can't find the Sync tab in preferences

Can't find the Sync tab in preferences

This is the directions I found to make files online only.

"How to make files online-only by default

To make all files that you add to the Dropbox folder on your computer online-only by default:

  1. Click the Dropbox icon in your notification center (Windows) or menu bar (Mac).
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the top-right corner.
  3. Click Preferences.
  4. Click the Sync tab. -
  5. Click the dropdown next to New files default.
  6. Select Online-only.

This setting means that all future files and folders that you add to the Dropbox folder on your computer will be online-only. New files won’t take up storage space on your computer. This won’t affect existing files and folders."

I do not have a Sync tab under preferences - now what

Hi @Tribble1, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Are you certain you're viewing the Dropbox desktop application preferences?

Could you attach a screenshot showing what you're seeing?

This will help me to assist further!

Dear Dropbox  - the dropbox desktop app location is confusing. Being set in the apps bar at the top of the screen on a mac, separate from dropbox online or the dropbox shortcut in the applications folder, is bad enough.

Even worse, the help article for slective sync does not specify how to find the desktop app - users have to figure this out by clicking a couple more links until they get to "what to do if you can't find..."

Please make the preferences and selective sync options available from web browser, and phone app. There are many changes that could be made to make Dropbox more friendly, and this is one of them. I think weekly about using other cloud platforms because of nonsense like this.

Personally, I don't want to have to use a web site or phone app to control an application that's already on my computer. Preferences, and the options within, are just fine where they are.
