Have Dropbox do virus checking

I think it would be a great extra service if Dropbox could do a security scan on any X set of files (and recursively). This could be as files are added or on a scheduled basis.

I see this being done using some open-source virus checker or in partnership with a 3rd party security service and could be an extra value add or fee service.

Dropbox content uploaded to the cloud with smart sync is not scannable by virus scanner on the host computer since only a stub is stored there.

Therefore It might be an option for Dropbox to offer a virus scan including ransomware detection.

    Maybe it already exists?

A ransomware attack coding our files would go to the files on the cloud by sincing the files affected.

One knows in average how many files are changed in an average work day, Allowing the user to limit de number of files sinced per day could result in limiting de harm done by ransomware in basic computer users.

    Is it dumb?
