Neuer PC; lokale Datensicherung vorhanden; trotzdem kpl. Download durch Dropbox!?
Hallo!
Wenn ich meinen Rechner mal komplett neu aufsetzen will oder muss, mache ich (zusätzlich zur automatischen Sicherung auf Dropbox) auch eine lokales Backup, das ich dann auf den "neuen" Rechn...

Hier die Auskunft eines Gurus:
yeah, this can be a bit risky tho….
when you install/link the client you can point it at the existing Dropbox folder
the client will then reindex all the content in that folder
however….
if anything differs, then it will upload it as preceived _new_ content, as a Conflicted Copy
I would make sure that backup was minutes old if I was gonna link Dropbox to it.I wouldn’t try this with a folder that was days old
(an API or Anti-virus could have modified the files in a very minor way, Dropbox detect the _modified date_ as different and then duplication as (Conflicted Copy)s )Dropbox will still reindex, to build the local database. this could take a while dependent on number of files and shared folder…. but Dropbox does not actually downloading the data, just checking it

In meinem Fall hat das Reindexing alleine schon sehr lange gedauert, und dann wurde auch noch von allen Dateien eine "conflicting copy" herunter- und die andere Fassung hochgeladen. Ein Riesenaufwand. Naja, Datenverlust wäre schlimmer. Nächstes Mal spiele ich kein lokales Backup ein, und lasse stattdessen den Komplett-Download über mich ergehen, kann mir ja eigentlich egal sein.
