Wouldn't it be better to tell people when a MAJOR change like this happens?
It just causes confusion and makes people - like me - think that something has stopped working.
You need to inform people that there is no longer a green tick etc. (what is the icon when it's not working now?)
- porthos8 years agoHelpful | Level 6Yup - I've had 5 phone calls/messages this morning from staff asking me why their dropbox isn't working because they don't see the green checkmark now. You need to do a WAY BETTER job of notifying us about significant UI changes.
Why didn't you just push this out via the dropbox notifications system? Then the users might have seen it and this would have caused a whole lot less confusion and disruption???- JohnMurray8 years agoHelpful | Level 6I agree entirely!
Last week I noticed that the green tick had vanished and thought there was something wrong with my dropbox so I then emailed dropbox support about it. I had to wait 3 days for a reply and after taking screenshots and providing the version I was using for them they asked me if I had the box ticked on the website to be included in the latest beta builds - it turns out I had ticked it at some point so the latest beta version had downloaded without me knowing. The version was 37.4.29.
Dropbox support then told me to uncheck the box and reinstall dropbox to the latest "stable" version which I did and hey presto, the green tick was back....... happy days!
Now then, this evening I glanced down at the icon in the system tray and noticed the green tick had vanished again so I went straight to the website to double check in settings that the "beta builds" box was still unchecked and it was. At this point I was getting annoyed so have spent the last half an hour typing another email to dropbox asking them what is going on and of course I have to wait another 3 days for a reply.
Ten minutes after sending that email I find this thread explaining that build 37.4.29 is the new latest stable build and that dropbox have done away with the green tick on the system tray icon on purpose!!!!!
I find this absolutely incredible - two long emails and stress for nothing. The support person didn't even tell me in our first email conversation that the beta build I was using would be the new stable version in a matter of days and that the green tick will vanish then anyway as dropbox has a new design.
This is no way to operate or treat your customer base and I can imagine untold people noticing the tick missing now and thinking the same thing as me - that dropbox isn't working properly.
All the above aside - what genius came up with the idea in the first place!? I am sure that like me - other users actually liked that little green tick as it told you that everything was fine, synced and working properly - and now it's gone.
We are living in clownworld.
